OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently? I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire. They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos. I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?

You’re comparing apples to oranges. Don’t be a coward and put the chad on Grindr then compare his numbers to hers. Your phone will break with his notifications
🚨 DATING APP EXPERIMENT 🚨 We put 6’3” Terra Chad up against an overweight woman in NYC for 24 hours. Terra Chad: 340 likes Her: 677 likes She literally DOUBLED a 6’3” attractive guy. Read that again. One of the biggest misconceptions in modern dating is that Chad is playing on easy mode. He is. But Women are playing a completely different video game…

it's sorta funny to watch companies reason this from first principles over many years when it's like...a very well-established fact of basic consumer psychology that people don't like to see new fees introduced at the end of a transaction. the Free Shipping Principle or whatever.
Replying to @heatherpedia
I think a lot of you are misunderstanding the frustration. what's annoying is paying a cleaning fee and then being asked to clean. it feels like double dipping. it may be illogical, but you'd get less complaints about "$100 fee but you don't have to do anything" versus "$50 fee + load the dishwasher"

"I have no visual sensibility, it turns out." Hilarious self-realization... Not sure Sorkin is the properly self-critical type though.

If I were Brad, the message in the days/weeks to come will be that this was the dry run for 2030 when Nate Erskine-Smith and Mike Layton split the left. Brad ran a great, positive campaign for #Toronto and he almost pulled off what would’ve been a historic defeat of an incumbent.
I like Richard but I think this is off. Bradford went from ~1% of the vote in 2023 to ~40% now. He gave the Chow campaign (which is a formidable machine) a real challenge, as evidenced by its hard turn negative in the 11th hour. I don't think there will be much, if any, regret

Happy anniversary to The Times They Are a-Changin', the truly cursed Bob Dylan Broadway musical that opened on this date in 2006 (and closed a couple weeks later). For "Like a Rolling Stone," they had the whole cast—wait for it—roll around on stones.

Moment an American pastor and prophetess, who are both married, introduce a new wife to their congregation and announce that they are now in a polygynous marriage with a female church member, claiming it is the “will of God.” 😭🤦🏾‍♂️🙆🏾‍♂️

People are reappraising this song. They should not. It is obviously terrible. It is just Paul McCartney playing with equipment.

Left-NIMBYISM is much funnier. Yeah, i'm a socialist, except in the case of housing, where I believe in zealously protecting the rights of property owners to form a cartel at the expense of the poor. Let's build some parking lots in city centers for suburbanites to park in!
“Left-YIMBYism” is one of the funniest things I’ve seen people talk themselves into. Like yeah, I’m a socialist except in the case of housing where I believe in supply-side economics and deregulation. Let’s bulldoze some section 8 housing and sell it to developers
