Why would you call something Mitch McConnell did the Schumer rule 😂. The unwillingness to grapple with the way two court seats were handled by McConnell by anyone on the right is going to lead to total SCOTUS calvinball for the foreseeable future. Cake was baked in 2020.
It is quite possible that the new rule — the Schumer Rule? — will be that if one party has the majority, it will _never_ hold a hearing on a Supreme Court nominee from a president of the other party, no matter how much time remains until the next election. Democrats talk a lot about expanding the Supreme Court, but if, God forbid, there’s an unexpected vacancy in the next two years, they may well end up shrinking it temporarily.

I have no idea if this moves the needle, but I do give any Republican credit for publicly announcing their support for a Democrat, particularly in a state like South Carolina, where it might actually make a difference
This is what putting South Carolina first looks like. I’m honored to have the support of two former governors — Republican David Beasley and Democrat Jim Hodges. We may not agree on everything, but we share a belief that matters most: South Carolina deserves leaders who will always put its people first.

Starting to sound like a broken record, but primary turnout in SC’s Black-majority counties was 6 points above the statewide rate. Hampton County’s two-party turnout swung 36 points from 2024. Black turnout intensity from the primaries seems to be carrying over to the general.
SC modeled party is at R+1.9 but that is significantly worse than 2024 at this period of EV where it was R+28.8. Modeled Dem turnout is +7% vs 24 and modeled GOP is -45% vs 2024 147K Black turnout is near even vs 24. Share is 29.5% of ballots cast vs 21.3% in 2024 #scpol

Right? Hotels are ridiculously short of cleaning staff since covid. I've yet to encounter one that demanded guests do more chores to compensate.

This is wrong. I'm in a blue collar diner in Ohio, and every lifelong Democrat there says the Obama joke was so offensive that they're all voting straight R and naming their firstborns "Vivek."
Obama made an in-joke that only lands with those of us who have been to a Cheesecake Factory, since it requires insider Cheesecake Factory knowledge to be funny. Elites not understanding it and acting outraged on our behalf makes it even funnier.

“Bluer than expected” by every analyst aside from this one and since she has tits, no one cares.
🚨#BREAKING: Every single early vote metric is showing the blue wave is going to be even bluer than anticipated, with Democrats showing historic levels of turnout EVERYWHERE. Even districts purposefully gerrymandered to be R+10 are heavily favoring Democrats.

The overarching principle here? A constitutional-political equilibrium can only be achieved if & after Ds have benefited to the same extent as Rs from partisan rupture of norms. E.g., Ds must enjoy a big gerrymandering advantage for 12+ years before a return to nonpartisan maps.

To make a point that is far broader than any particular person: plenty of rich people thought slavery was wrong and found ways not to participate in it. They did free their slaves. Or they sold their plantations. Or they allowed their slaves to buy their freedom. Or they moved.
The reality of the founding fathers and slavery. They knew what they were doing. We can-- and should-- celebrate the many great things Washington did, but you can't sugar-coat slavery. Owning people wasn't some accident-- it was how these folks avoided working for a living.

No one will disagree with me when I say that the great cast is one of the main reasons the original Star Trek has endured for so long, and Walter Koenig was terrific as Chekov. My heart goes out to my friend Danielle, his wonderful daughter. Rest In Peace.

Same of Georgia vis-a-vis North Carolina. Obama won NC and it was a tossup in statewide ballots (Presidential, Senate, and state offices) ever since. Georgia surpassed it only in 2020, unexpectedly.

When Democrats dreamed of a blue Texas more than a decade ago, they never imagined Texas voting to the left of Florida, perhaps significantly so. If anything, they imagined once Texas started leaning blue, Florida would be solidly blue.

Philadelphia’s left, meanwhile, despises technocrats, is optics focused, and can’t even criticize the sheriff.
Nithya Raman really is running to be the Zohran Mamdani of L.A. Someone who is pretty far left, but also technocratic, results-focused, and intent on dismantling the city's machine politics. And also aggressively pro-housing. If she wins, I wonder what other big cities could see candidates with this brand of politics pop up.

The majority of Americans are white, so if you think the majority of citizens are inherently selfish and corrupt, that is not a great statement about the nation itself. Democrats can’t win on that type of platform. Voters reject the cynicism and contempt.

good point. white people writ large refuse to vote for a candidate that cares about anyone other than themselves. perhaps my comment is too blunt, but the truth is there.

Trump also famously apologized for the Access Hollywood tape. It now seems inconceivable
"Whatever dark power Trump has that has enabled him to become president twice while being quite literally one of the most morally despicable human beings on Earth, it’s not easily duplicated by your average Republican candidate for Senate, House, or governor. When candidates like Vivek Ramaswamy ask 'What would Trump do?' then do that thing, they often find that the voters respond with, 'What an atrocious jerk. I’m definitely not voting for that guy.'" publicnotice.co/p/vivek-rama…

You didn't rent out your spare room. You rented a second and third apartment just so it could sit empty between guests. You bought entire houses in neighborhoods where families were trying to buy their first home. You turned residential streets into unstaffed hotels with lockboxes, cleaning fees, and a checklist of chores for the guest...

Airbnb started as "Airbed & Breakfast." Literally air mattresses in the founders' living room. The whole idea was simple: you have a spare room, a guesthouse, an empty couch. Host someone. Make a few bucks. Be a person. Then the investors showed up…
