For English artist, Albert Goodwin (1845-1932) Whitby Abbey was a muse like no other & he intermittently painted it over the course of 14 years in all weather & at different times of the day, producing a series of stunning images. #Gothtober

If you are walking the barren desert that is #middlegrade fiction and are looking for something of interest to read with your 9-11 year old, I would highly recommend Bernard-Waite’s Trumpalar series. Reviews in post below ⬇️

"Swan song" is a metaphorical phrase denoting a final performance, gesture, or effort delivered just before death or retirement. The term originates from an ancient Greek belief (specifically recorded by figures like Aesop and Aristotle) that mute swans break their lifelong silence to sing a uniquely beautiful, mournful melody just before they die. In classical languages, it translates to the Ancient Greek κύκνειον ᾆσma and Latin carmen cygni. While ornithologists have long debunked this poetic phenomenon as a myth, the concept transitioned seamlessly into Western literature, serving as a universal idiom celebrating an artist's, athlete's, or professional's spectacular final masterpiece or farewell appearance. Well this is awesome. Pop culture behemoth CBR just dropped their top 5 list of 'essential' cyberpunk books. Four are much as you'd expect (Do Androids Dream, Neuromancer, Snow Crash, and Altered Carbon), & one you wouldn't. My debut, 36 Streets. cbr.com/must-read-cyberpunk-…

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
