You talk like you're preaching to someone in an ivory tower. I work 12-hour night shifts operating heavy chemical mill machinery. I don't 'imagine' the shop floor—I live it. Real working people understand why government safety standards and wage floors are non-negotiable.

Fake history. Being worked to death is far worse. In Edwin Chadwick’s famous 1842 sanitary report, the raw "average age at death" for labourers in Manchester was recorded as just 17 years old, compared to 38 for professionals in the same city and 38–50 for rural farm labourers.

Enclosure, theft of land and livliehoods, was the weapon used to drive people into factories and slums. Schools and social housing only happened because the factory owner went looking for absent workers and found them dying in cramped slums.

Wampanoag people might have "worked" 20 or 30 or 40 hours a week but it wasn't the same sort of work someone roofing or in a factory in capitalism does. Not the same denigration and subordination factor. And why couldn't you say "Yeah that definition makes sense" instead of this.

No, that is absolutely untrue, but guess who benefits from people thinking it's true?

Poverty was the factory default setting for humanity up until like 200 years ago; not some byproduct of capitalism.

People were not all living in poverty before capitalism. It's absolutely wild that saying this garners so much ridicule. It's a false narrative that apparently has been installed as a fact in people's heads.

You're completely wrong as usual, because you're driven by ideology & never do sufficient research to substantiate the myths you subscribe to . 1. The United States - the global superpower of free-market capitalism and home to the tech billionaires, Wall Street CEOs, and think tanks that promote this (false) narrative you're articulating - has some of the most severe poverty and economic insecurity in the developed world. 2. Over the last four decades, the vast majority of people lifted out of absolute extreme poverty lived in China. And China's economy is not a standard free-market capitalist model. Its poverty alleviation was driven by aggressive, state-directed industrial policy, massive public funding for state-owned enterprises, universal public education, heavily controlled capital markets, and centralized infrastructure planning. 3. If you subtract China from global data over the past 40 years, the remaining drop in global poverty rates is remarkably slow. In fact, outside of China, the absolute number of people living under realistic poverty lines across the capitalist Global South (this used to be called the 'Third World') has actually risen over certain periods due to population growth outstripping structural improvement. 4. If we use the World Bank's Baseline of 10% of people globally living under the official extreme poverty line, then about 700 to 800 million people are counted as poor. But a more realistic threshold of 50-60% is based on using a metric of $7.40 to $10 a day income - considered the minimum needed for a basic life expectancy, proper caloric intake, and infant survival. So, if we use this metric, then the number of people counted as poor is between 4.2 billion and 4.6 billion people. >>>When critics state that over 4.2 billion people live below a realistic poverty line of $7.40 to $10 a day, they mean that more than half of the entire human population is currently living in poverty. And the capitalist system is all but global - end of argument!

Big Time Boomer denialism of reality and blaming of people who are trapped in capitalism playing like it's all our own failure to thrive in a system that exploits the workers, and also a biblical archaeologist to boot? jackpot of boomerism.
Not only am I also a student of history, but my studies as a Biblical Archaeologist go back 3,500 years. By your age I had already built THREE successful businesses in NYC, the most challenging and competitive business environment in America. I succeeded only through my own Merit. You are failing because you believe you’re entitled to Equal Outcomes, rather than Equal Opportunities. Applying your Socialist principles while living in a Capitalist country is financial suicide. A good friend of mine, like you is also a skilled carpenter, and your age. Yet somehow he supports a wife, 4 kids, 5 horses, 3 late model vehicles and a beautiful 3000 square foot home on 10 acres. Stop playing victim and whining about Capitalism, and start reflecting on your own inadequacies.

Capitalism tangles up the lives of the working class and steals our time and labor just so the few can be kings in lifestyle, and the OP Rich has me blocked because he doesn't want to hear that truth.
Cronyism and corporatism is just capitalism taken to its logical conclusion.

poor guy is so extremely upset that I would dare to talk about capitalism while I also live in capitalism because I have no choice because it controls the world and I happen to be born in the US which is the imperial core of the world so I happen to stay here and work my ass off
YOU ARE A CAPITALIST BITCHING ABOUT CAPITALISM. YOU HAVE NO INTEGRITY OR CREDIBILITY. SHUT UP, YOU HYPOCRITE AND STOP TALKING.

It's my name asshole. And what I said about capitalism is simply correct.
Haha!! “Sage”!! Self-glossing douche. Reminds me of a guy who showed up in the squadron who said his family is from New Zealand so his callsign should be “Kiwi” Poor child. Never give yourself a callsign. His ended up “Peewee”

Look at the slime fest the capitalism defenders are doing. This sort of behaviour is so vile.
Pretty sure that "Sage" is 12 or younger. At least emotionally.

oh did I blame others for my own troubles? do we not live within a particular kind of system anyway? doesn't the system in which a person live determine basically the system in which prison lives? like what are you actually trying to say?
Neither is blaming others for your own troubles.

well here I am mother f***** tell Rich the original poster to unblock me or else have you dialogue with me here and ask me questions directly without insult and without bantering about me as some type of person that you despise

and yes of course being rich is not something that I aspire to either, I just want to be comfortable too just like pretty much most people, did you somehow assume that I wanted to be rich or something?

I am a reasonable person who has a hard-earned analysis of exactly what capitalism is and how it works but when I speak on this website people seem to go into attack mode against me for being heretical to capitalism
4
John Ford tell the original poster that it is cowardly to ridicule me and tag me and then block me, tell him he is absolutely dead wrong about everything and he's a coward to not be able to face the arguments actually.
Three times, not for your entire life, like many in the are you wish to go back to.
28
yeah so the other guy who also said all kinds of nasty things about me also blocked me, these people just completely lose every dialogue because they don't have a case but they think they win somehow because they have the numbers and the swarming
Nobody needs an authority to tell us what to do. That's an unfair and wrong assumption about Sage's argument. That's called a strawman.
