On the fourth day of #BIPWeek, @BlackinMarSci got to relax and restore- #CoralRestoration, that is! The students teamed up with @rescueareef to learn about restoration and create coral "cookies" that were placed on rocky reefs to grow new #corals in @FloridaKeysNMS. #BIMSTakeover

#BIPWeek students got their feet wet with @dfoceans for a kayaking clean-up to remove #MarineDebris in the mangroves. @BlackinMarSci removed 40 lbs of trash in under an hour! Students learned about the effects of marine debris on ecosystems like @FloridaKeysNMS. #BIMSTakeover

#BIPWeek started with a splash! @BlackinMarSci students tested their #SCUBA skills in the pool with Jr Scientists in the Sea, before heading to Miami for their first open water #dive. All the students will be certified @PADI SCUBA divers by the end of the week! #BIMSTakeover

At this meeting with officials running for Asst. & Lt. Gov and I’m masked & one of the candidates (who is not masked) comes over to me and says “who are you?” while moving my braid 😑…then when I say my name she says “you’re a high schooler or student?” 😒
No, I’m not. I tell her what I do. She goes “oh but you definitely get mistaken for a student often don’t you?” Ma’am please leave me alone. I do not want to engage.
It’s still a pandemic. Keep your distance from me. If I’m wearing my mask and you’re not, what makes you think I want you in my personal space? I don’t. Please do not touch my hair. How many times do we have to say that??

Thankfully, the BIMS team is safe & our students are safe. Some students did see the number of cop cars (4!!!) that were crowded outside the hotel. There was no regard for them whatsoever when T was told to leave which meant of course WE all were leaving.
Y’all the lady @FairfieldHotels just called the police on me because I’ve been here for a week and they haven’t cleaned my room. I’ve asked everyday and they never came. I went to ask again and she said I was aggressive. Please pray I don’t die. Can anyone @MarriottBonvoy help 🥺
