Script could’ve used a redraft or two. Several major plot problems, and some really wonky characterization for at least two characters. But quite a spectacle. Visually marvelous; probably one of the most technically impressive productions I’ve ever seen.
I have no idea who Slayyyer is so I can’t speak to whether or not they stand by their awful racist past. I’m only taking issue with the inherent implication from OP that it’s impossible to shed racist ideology and become a better person.

I still don’t really understand the problem with that phrasing.
“At one phase of my life, I bought into racist rhetoric, and I’ve since grown as a person and changed my ways.”
Seems completely above board to me 🤷♂️

Saying “there’s no such thing as a former racist” pretty explicitly implies you don’t believe one can have been racist in their past and has since changed. And neither that claim, nor the one you’ve interpreted as, have anything to do with forgiveness of past sins
If she wanted to stay on the island, she was more than welcome to. But she didn’t have to stop him from being rescued, and killing two people in the process.

What? What are you talking about??
She enjoyed being on the island because it allowed her control over a situation in which she was uniquely good at, and which forced her douchey boss to be dependent on her, giving her a power trip.

I don’t understand why this discourse keeps devolving into discussions about forgiveness when what OP is talking about is whether or not a leopard can change their spots. This is about redemption, not forgiveness.

All true and correct; the problem is that that’s NOT the main claim they’re making. That’s what they keep pivoting to after you point out the absurdity of claim 1, which has nothing to do with claim 2. That’s my whole point.
Which in its own right is obviously dumb, but then they keep pivoting it to “you can’t expect everyone to forgive you” and that’s NOT what the discussion was about!!!
Like a lot of these people are arguing the extremely bizarre/unfair claim that if you ever had problematic beliefs in the past, that’s still who you are fundamentally.

I often find it’s those accusing others of projecting who are doing it the hardest
