Ashok Kumar of Greens for Palestine spoke to Novara Media about strategy behind the Green Party’s “Zionism is racism” motion, which took a year to organize and was designed to expose Labour’s politics. He said PM Andy Burnham’s response revealed him as little different from Keir Starmer.
Inspired by Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s France Unbowed and its “strategy of conflict,” the idea is to set the terms of debate, provoke a backlash, and heighten contradictions to force opponents to reveal positions.
Rather than chase more MPs by moderating its politics, Kumar says the Greens should use confrontation to shift the debate leftward and become an anti-establishment force.
“We want to drag [the paradigm] to the left kicking and screaming.”

Can we agree that that Zionism is Racism, in exposing that Labour has not changed on Palestine, and is willing to do everything to defend the genocide — including defaming thousands as “antisemites” — was a genius motion that completely exposed Burnham as no different to Starmer.

Another excellent response to the Labour Party's crude gambit. Good to see so many local leaders standing up and calling out the Labour Party for its complicity in genocide.
In 2018 and 2022 Labour won EVERY SEAT in Lewisham. In 2026 they lost 39 seats to the Greens and lost control of the Council, in part driven by anger over Gaza and Starmer.
Does the Labour Party really think this is going to play well in a borough that's just sent a firm message to Labour?
Burnham will burn through huge political capital with the left that is given his party another hearing if he goes through with this... but be pilloried in the press if he stops.

The campaign against Polanski has now reached Corbyn levels of hysteria. So normalised has this become for the political/media class that they are totally oblivious to the fact the bulk of the public are saying - hang on, but he's Jewish.
According to Opinium 81% of Green voters who expressed a view said they supported the Zionism is racism motion and 60% of ALL voters under 34.
It is absolutely vital the current Green Party leadership stands firm. Millions switched to the Greens precisely because they appeared to be prepared to stand firm on the great moral issue of our day. To buckle would be disastrous for British democracy.
Antisemitism is a cancer in our politics.
We fought hard to root it out of our party.
We will not stand by and watch it infect public life again.
