It's not just about size. We need to repair our idea of African cartography in many ways. It seats at the center of new geo....politics!😱

“I have a country to run and a region to take care of,” says Prime Minister of Barbados @miaamormottley, after being asked why she chose not to be a candidate for UN secretary-general. Mottley cites her obligations to her home country and region, and notes that she’s “not sure that the world wants somebody whose tongue is as heavy as mine.”

Every human being has equal value. Every single one.
At the United Nations General Assembly, I challenged a world that still decides whose lives deserve protection and whose suffering can be ignored.
No race is superior. No people are disposable. Until we honour that truth, "everywhere is war" remains a warning we have failed to heed.
What the world needs now is love, with the courage to confront injustice and defend our shared humanity.
Love and a little kindness. For everyone.

The UN’s move to enlarge Africa and other Global South countries on the world map is a symbolic but important correction. Representation shapes perception — and perception shapes policy.
This aligns with GSPH’s work to elevate Global South perspectives and ensure Washington engages with the world as it truly is. It is a reminder that representation shapes policy — drawing the world more accurately helps build a more equitable, informed, and inclusive international order.

Multilateralism's legitimacy crisis isn't new — but the Global North can no longer ignore it.
While #GlobalSouth countries try to reform institutions that exclude them, they are also seeking alternative avenues to advance their interests.

The #GlobalSouth didn't lose its seat at the table. It was never handed one.
Many bodies, such as the IMF, the World Bank, and the UNSC, still fundamentally lack broad representation, which erodes their ability to resolve modern global crises effectively.
What are countries doing to change this? Nonresident Fellow @Siderop explores this question in our latest policy brief: gsphub.org/publications/what…

Washington dominates multilateral institutions. But it's losing the room.
In a 2025 Körber-Stiftung survey on “emerging middle powers”, 83 percent of South African respondents believed that the Global North had lost credibility as a defender of global norms.
Washington risks isolation if it does not support #GlobalSouth-led reforms toward a more equitable multilateral order. More from Nonresident Fellow @Siderop: gsphub.org/publications/what…

🇨🇻⚽ What a World Cup from Cabo Verde! A nation of barely above half a million people travelled from the far corner of the Atlantic to face an extraordinary path: three former world champions. No team could have asked for a tougher draw. Yet they stood toe to toe with football's giants and were only defeated after normal time in the very last match, against the reigning world champions. 🌍💪
This is far more than football. It is a reminder that size does not determine ambition, geography does not define destiny, and excellence can emerge from the most unexpected places. The world is applauding Cabo Verde—and rightly so. 👏🇨🇻⭐

The repeated narrative of @jacob_maroga and others that South Africa’s power cuts were caused by a renewables push (informed by the German energiewende), at the expense of coal, misses completely what happened and, more importantly, what’s happening now.
In the severe load shedding period (2019-2023) only the last couple of units of a small very old coal power station - Komati - were shuttered (most units were taken offline in prior years). And relatively modest amounts of renewables were added.
But now the picture is VERY different and it’s happening under the current leadership of the energy ministry and Eskom.
Look at @Eskom_SA’s chart below. South Africa’s power sector is undergoing a profound transformation with massive amounts of solar and wind being added to the grid. 2026 will be a record year for renewable energy investments and the pipeline of projects being funded and built in 2027-29 is huge, driven by economics (not any foreign ideology).
This is not a fairytale. It’s reality.
Much better now to focus on the urgent need for flexible resources to complement the variability of low cost renewables.
