Amazing. They tried to destroy Lynne for objecting to male cheats in her sport and now she's representing England and winning.

This you, @andyburnham?
Instead of that prat, raise your glass today to a proper racer who never hid behind driving a computer. OTD 1976, half a century ago *today*, James Hunt, our most glorious playboy sportsman, beat Niki Lauda in the blinding spray of the Mount Fuji foothills, to win the Formula One World Championship title. The night before the race, the only things he wanted to free were the uniforms from the string of BA air hostesses traipsing to his hotel room.

The endless cycle of idea and action,
Endless invention, endless experiment,
Brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness;
Knowledge of speech, but not of silence;
Knowledge of words, and ignorance of The Word…

As I recall, France did not mind its ‘sovereignty being breached’ by us in 1944. <<France’s interior minister has said police officers must not intervene in shallow waters to stop migrant dinghies leaving. Laurent Nunez said officers’ jobs were to save lives not to put them at risk, adding that puncturing dinghies close to the shore was unacceptable. He also maintained that the French would not allow any British boats to return migrants to French shores as it would breach French sovereignty.>>

The list is very long. Let’s see what Sir Wyn says and then let Justice take its course. Don’t forget the SRA haven’t even stopped them practicing. In fact no one has been stopped by their regulatory body.

Roderic Williams and Jarnail Singh are presumably in the line of fire? Although Paula Vennells, as the head of post office , should also get her collar felt imo

Oh dear. Perhaps Liz Truss could form a group to help the Conservatives win😱
Looking forward to hearing what form this “help” will take… via @e_casalicchio

At the US Open: the camera panning from the clock at 0:07 to Pierce Brosnan is absolutely genius.

Rick Rescorla implemented evacuation procedures that saved thousands of lives on September 11, 2001.
He died going back into the South Tower to bravely help evacuate more people.
A true British-American hero.
God bless his family on this anniversary. God bless America. 🇺🇸
On a day of unimaginable tragedy, ordinary people stood up as heroes on 9/11, one of whom was Rick Rescorla. Rick was a proud Cornishman and a decorated U.S. Army officer who worked as head of security for @MorganStanley in the South Tower. His foresight, courage & selflessness saved almost all of the company’s 2,700 employees on 9/11. His bravery & heroism alongside many, many others, will never be forgotten.

Lovely words from Ralph Vaughan Williams, d otd 1958 - what a wonderful man:
"But in the next world I shan't be doing music, with all the striving and disappointments. I shall be being it."

One more thought on education.
“When I first meet students I tell them I have two responsibilities. Firstly I will teach them how to pass examinations and secondly I will teach them how to think and I hope that they will always remember how to think.”

Jason Arday did not deserve to die. But @Cambridge_Uni, your top priority should now be to act to undo the damage to your reputation caused by your promotion of someone who was vastly under qualified and had made numerous false statements. I say this as an alumnus.
A University statement one week after the tragic passing of Jason Arday.

ALT Today marks a week since the tragic passing of our former colleague Jason Arday. Last Friday we heard the terrible news of his death and this past week has been a time of profound grief and deep reflection in our community. We understand the pain, sadness and anger that many of our colleagues, staff and students are feeling. We have been reaching out to meet as many of you as possible, to hear from you, and will continue to do so.
