PUBLIC NOTICE TO ALABAMA AND U.S. FEDERAL AUTHORITIES
Subject: Alleged Forced Religious Conversion in Ethiopia, Islamic Extremism, and the Continued Harassment of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and Amhara Communities by an Alabama Resident
I respectfully draw the attention of Alabama authorities, U.S. federal law enforcement agencies, and organizations concerned with religious freedom to deeply disturbing reports of religious persecution in Ethiopia and the continuing public conduct of Mr. #Habtamu_Challa_Gurmu (@Habtishgreat), an Ethiopian immigrant reportedly residing in Alabama.
The two videos accompanying this statement reportedly originate from Ethiopia and depict individuals identified as Christians being compelled to renounce their faith. The repeated invocation of Allah can be heard in the recordings, according to the accompanying account. If authenticated, these scenes raise grave concerns about religious coercion, violent Islamic extremism, and the fundamental right of every individual to practice their faith without intimidation or violence.
These reports emerge against the background of the recent massacre of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians in Arsi and the continuing insecurity affecting Orthodox Christian and Amhara communities. Such atrocities demand independent investigation, identification of those responsible, and accountability under the law.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, one of the oldest Christian institutions in existence, represents an extraordinary civilizational inheritance. The preservation of ancient sacred texts, including the Book of Enoch and the Book of Jubilees, is part of that inheritance. The continued targeting of its followers raises profound concerns about religious persecution and civilizational erasure.
Against this deeply troubling background, I wish to draw attention to the repeated public conduct of Mr. #Challa, who professes adherence to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church while, in my assessment, engaging in a sustained pattern of harassment directed at Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and members of the Amhara community.
His public discussions have repeatedly concerned identifiable individuals, their private lives, their political positions, and their participation in Orthodox Christian and Amhara community discourse. His recent activity also includes attempts to associate individuals with violent events in Ethiopia without presenting adequate supporting evidence.
The apparent overlap between the communities targeted in the Ethiopian videos and those discussed in Mr. Challa's public commentary is deeply concerning. However, similarity in rhetoric or timing does not, by itself, establish coordination.
I therefore respectfully ask the appropriate authorities to examine any credible evidence that might establish whether Mr. Challa has connections to individuals or organizations involved in religious intimidation or violent Islamic extremism in Ethiopia. Such an examination should be based on specific evidence of communication, coordination, financing, threats, or other unlawful conduct, rather than religious identity or political opinion.
The fact that Mr. Challa publicly identifies with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church makes his repeated commentary concerning its followers particularly troubling to those who have experienced or witnessed the alleged harassment. Several individuals have reportedly expressed their willingness to provide testimony and supporting documentation to the appropriate authorities. Their accounts deserve careful and impartial consideration.
This concern is compounded by earlier recorded statements in which Mr. Challa claimed possession of individuals' Social Security numbers, driver's license information, residential addresses, and other sensitive personal details, claims he subsequently denied. The question of whether he obtained any such information, and through what means, remains unresolved.
His social media history also warrants review. His account @Habtishgreat recently reappeared following a reported suspension. Previously reported suspended handles include @HabtishGurmu (also written @habtishgurmu) and @gurmuchalla. He has also reportedly continued participating in X Spaces through Ethio-Music (@MusicdonebyAi).
I have personally raised concerns about the unauthorized circulation of my photographs and the potential danger this creates for my family members in Ethiopia. These concerns form part of a broader request for examination of alleged harassment, intimidation, and privacy violations.
I respectfully request that Alabama and federal authorities consider three distinct matters: the reported religious coercion depicted in the Ethiopian videos; any independently substantiated connections between individuals in the United States and those responsible for religious violence in Ethiopia; and the documented statements and alleged harassment involving sensitive personal information.
These matters should be investigated on their own evidence. No connection between Mr. Challa and the perpetrators of violence in Ethiopia has been established by the material described here.
The massacre of innocent Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, the coercion of individuals to renounce their faith, and the intimidation of communities exercising their fundamental rights must never be normalized. Religious freedom belongs equally to Christians, Muslims, and every other community.
Freedom of expression does not excuse intimidation. Religious identity does not excuse persecution. Political allegiance does not place anyone above the law.
The rule of law must prevail over the law of the jungle.

ETHIOPIA - AMHARA GENOCIDE ALERT: 42+ Amhara Civilians Massacred in Tulu Gana, Wollega, by the Genocidal Regime

More than 42 Amhara civilians were massacred by Oromia Region Gada Commando forces backed by ENDF in Tulu Gana and surrounding Menders.
• Over 40 civilians slaughtered in Tulu Gana
• More than 20 taken from their homes and executed in Mender 23

A heartbreaking scene from the disputed East Wellega region of Ethiopia: the body of an Amhara Christian woman lies beside her injured daughter, amid reports of deadly ethnic violence.
Communities continue to suffer from horrific violence, displacement, and loss. Our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia deserve safety, justice, and the freedom to live out their faith without fear.
💔 How many more innocent lives must be lost before the world pays attention?
🙏 Pray for the victims, the wounded, and the grieving families. Pray for protection for vulnerable Christian communities and for an end to the bloodshed.

Why would Oromia authorities detain people for assisting the wounded or burying the dead?
News: More than 50 detained after burying victims of deadly attacks on #Orthodox faithful in #Ethiopia’s #Oromia
Addis Abeba — More than 50 residents in #Shirka Woreda, Southeast Zone (formerly #Arsi zone) of #Oromia region, have reportedly been detained after burying victims of recent attacks and assisting the wounded, residents told Addis Standard, raising concerns about a security crackdown in the aftermath of the killings.
The detention followed attacks by armed men in Chole and Birbo kebeles that left at least 48 people dead and more than 31 others injured, according to residents who spoke to Addis Standard. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s #Holy_Synod subsequently reported that 60 Orthodox Christians were killed in attacks on 20 and 24 October across two woredas in Arsi Zone.
Attempts by Addis Standard to contact the regional communication bureau for further comment were unsuccessful.

The first attack, on October 20, 2026, left 14 people dead in the Merti district. Four days later, on October 24, another 46 were killed in the Shirka district.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church says more than 20 people were seriously injured and at least 20 homes were set on fire.
Regional authorities have pointed the finger at rebels linked to the Oromo Liberation Army, though the group’s involvement is still being disputed.

Local residents in Arsi where mass killings happened a few days ago are saying anyone in the area who picked up and buried citizens killed a few days ago, wore mourning clothes, or was a relative of the deceased is being hunted down and arrested.
Residents say the number of people arrested by local officials, accused of being 'collaborators with the enemy' and 'leaking information,' has now exceeded 100.
Addis Standard confirmed this today and published news on it, mentioning that the number of detainees is over 50:
It is now becoming crystal clear who is behind the killings?

Jawar trying to lecture @FarahMaalimM on avoiding rhetoric that can incite violence is laughable. Here’s Jawar in 2019, the day after his Facebook post claiming he was surrounded by @AbiyAhmedAli regime forces. That post triggered Qerroo (Oromo youth) mobs who massacred over 100 Amhara and Orthodox civilians across Oromia and displaced thousands more. He showed no remorse or sympathy for the victims.
Dear Honorable @FarahMaalimM
I have been concerned by some of your recent media remarks regarding the Gari-Borana conflict in Moyale. I worry that the framing, however well-intentioned, could inadvertently heighten tensions rather than contribute to resolving them.
This is not an ethnic-level Oromo-Somali conflict, but rather a recurring dispute between two clans with close kinship ties, a shared language, and a common territory. Such disputes have persisted intermittently for decades and are sometimes exacerbated by cross-border contraband traders and unscrupulous security operatives. I therefore believe it is important to approach the situation with caution and avoid framing a localized conflict in ways that could turn it into a broader ethnic or national confrontation.
Sadly, this is not the first time you have made inflammatory remarks of this nature. A few years ago, when tensions arose between Somalia and Ethiopia, you delivered an incendiary speech directed at the Oromo, which was followed by reports of harassment and assaults against Oromo refugees in towns across Somalia. Such incidents underscore the potential consequences of rhetoric that risks inflaming ethnic tensions.
Brother Farah, I know you personally, and our relationship goes beyond politics. We have shared both good and difficult times. I have had the pleasure of hosting you in my home in Addis Ababa, and you have graciously welcomed me into yours, where I enjoyed a wonderful meal with your family. You were also among the first people to reach out and offer help when I recently faced a dangerous situation. I recall these moments because I know you as a fundamentally good-hearted and caring person, and I write to you in that same spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
As an elder statesman, you are someone whom I and many other younger politicians have looked to for advice, wisdom, and guidance on important national and regional issues. Precisely because I hold you in such high regard, I hope you will understand my concern. Your words carry weight, and with that comes a responsibility to promote restraint, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, especially when tensions are high.
Brother, I say this with genuine respect and affection. Please continue to be the voice of wisdom and guidance that we have come to expect from you.
Best regards,
Your younger brother,
Jawar Mohammed
