I'm not visibly Jewish and do not have a Jewish last name. I am as white-passing as it gets. I've seen people's attitudes towards me change on a dime upon finding out my mother's Jewishness.
People who obsess over microaggressions aimed at other groups have no qualms being openly racist against Jews. It's horrifying.
I have a friend who is not visibly Jewish and doesn't have a Jewish name. He told me, You would never believe how many people are consistently negative toward Jews. I said, I honestly have not really seen that. He said, well, they won't say it to you... yet.
I think it is important to come to terms with this. What we do about it is up to each of us.

Oh, so Haley Stevens might have โimplodedโ her career in 24 hours for not giving the full group hug after losing a primary.
Meanwhile El-Sayed can campaign with people who say wildly antisemitic stuff about Jews, call Israelโs actions genocide, get hit with โhurt people hurt peopleโ comments after a synagogue attack, and still be the Democratic nominee with a clean path forward.

Rachel Campos-Duffy on FOX this morning calls Haley Stevensโ demand that Abdul El-Sayed disavow a widely-condemned ad blaming Michiganโs high costs on support for Israel โsour grapes.โ
Then she asks, in all seriousness: โDo you think he should disavow that ad, even though he didnโt put it out?โ
Her cohost Griff Jenkins corrects her on live TV: โOh my goodness, Rachel! Absolutely.โ
Then comes the tell. She pivots to โforever warsโ and the debt, and says, โMaybe they should have said foreign wars instead of Israel.โ
Her objection isnโt that the ad was false. Itโs that the ad used the wrong noun. That is the Tucker Carlson โAmerica Firstโ voice on the couch.

When someone passes away, youโve probably heard Jews say, โMay their memory be a blessing.โ
But do you know why?
This beautiful Jewish tradition has roots going back thousands of years to the Hebrew Bible.
In Proverbs 10:7, we read:
ืึตืึถืจ ืฆึทืึดึผืืง ืึดืึฐืจึธืึธื
Zecher tzadik livracha
โThe memory of the righteous is a blessing.โ
In Hebrew, we say Zichrono livracha for a man and Zichronah livracha for a woman, often abbreviated ืืดื (zโl).
In Judaism, remembering someone isnโt simply about mourning their death. Itโs about honoring how they lived.
Their kindness, their wisdom, their teachings, and the love they gave donโt disappear when they leave this world. Those things live on through the people whose lives they touched.
And every time we share their stories, practice something they taught us, or perform a good deed in their honor, their memory continues to bring blessings into this world.
We cannot prevent death, but we can make certain a life is never forgotten.
And I think thatโs one of the most beautiful things about our Jewish traditions. โก๏ธ
