The UK government has spent years heaping costs, regulation and tax uncertainty onto British food producers, Farmers, and Small businesses - then turns around and tells the public to stockpile three days of tinned food and bottled water because "unexpected events seem to be becoming more common." Official figures show a net loss of more than 3,000 agriculture, forestry and fishing businesses in 2025 alone, the highest on record, with thousands more closures in the years before that. Inheritance tax changes on family farms (even after partial U-turns), soaring energy and inspection costs, labour shortages, post-Brexit trade deals that opened the door to cheaper imports, and chaotic subsidy schemes that left most applicants empty-handed have all piled on the pressure. Local abattoirs have collapsed from roughly 2,500 in the 1970s to around 200 today; surveys of farmers show large numbers warning they may have to stop producing meat locally or exit entirely if the next one closes. This week the government launched its "Be Ready" campaign, advising households to keep non-perishable food, litres of bottled water per person, cash, torches and radios in case of cyber attacks, extreme weather or other disruptions. That is sensible basic preparedness. What is absurd is watching the same state systematically weaken the domestic producers who actually grow and process the food that would make the country more resilient in the first place, while imports fill the gap and rural businesses fold. You cannot talk seriously about national resilience and food security while watching the infrastructure that produces British food shrink year after year. The contradiction is obvious.

My book Rigged, exposing an establishment cover-up at the highest level on both sides of the Atlantic followed by a whole series of miscarriages of justice, has already sold out its initial print run and been reprinted in the UK. Now it's being published in the United States:

FCA Statement on LIBOR/EURIBOR-related bans 👇 content.govdelivery.com/acco… @TheFCA are not taking any further action against all the innocents. Nor should they, obviously, because THEY ARE AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN INNOCENT! But will @TheFCA now apologise for failing to do what they should have done; and doing what they shouldn’t have. Including lying in court to help prosecute @MConnollyittm, another INNOCENT man: 📽️ youtube.com/watch?v=c2oYkKyR… The whole sorry saga of the Libor innocents is explained very well in the must-read book by @andyverity, RIGGED 📕 amazon.co.uk/Rigged-Incredib… @robilypj @DavidDavisMP @Carlier_J87 @stevemiddi1 @markbishopuk @NedBeale @CarshaltonArt

Was the financial regulator on the side of the angels in this story of traders wrongfully banned and prosecuted (as Sir David Davis said, ‘scapegoated’)? Or does it have some very serious questions to answer? You decide. fca.org.uk/news/statements/l…

We were saying it for well over a decade but very few people believed us. Careers and lives were ruined. Now the courts have finally seen the truth and, thankfully, mainstream media are catching on. Well done, WSJ. Let's see if the real culprits will be made to pay. Tick, tock.
Libor is a case study in how financial fraud allegations become a convenient political diversion for politicians and regulators eager to distract from their own blunders. on.wsj.com/4s3oGJL

Banks have been making historically large profits. Why? Because very well rewarded senior bankers have made ingenious business decisions? Or simply because interest rates are higher - so ordinary borrowers pay more? This is worth your attention: breakingviews.com/columns/co…

Once again inflation higher than expected. Once again they sell the asset that historically has been the best inflation hedge. Still waiting a bit more, once PMs become again 100% hated by everyone i'll get in. Probably around 3600-3800 gold, 48-52 silver. Patience.

Congratulations @HillF1 on the 30th anniversary of your F1 title! People say that the Williams car was way ahead of the competition at the time - that may be true, but your stint at Arrows afterwards proved that you are a truly great driver. I really enjoyed watching you race.

For anyone interested in the safety of the Lucy Letby conviction read this thread as it may have a significant impact on any appeal she may have.
1/ The SC is hearing the Ben Field case today and as envisaged Lord Leggatt is all over the CPS who have now conceded the weak swimmer point doesn't apply here. The CPS also rely on the #LucyLetby case and a point Lord Leggatt made (not about Lucy's case) may spell trouble for

For the last 14 years I listened to people calling me guilty. For the last year I listened to people saying I was not exonerated and we won on a technicality. Well Friday changed that. The case in law we were subjected to was so egregious it could not even withstand a guilty plea

Andy Verity deserves sainthood for exposing & especially explaining the Libor scandal, one of greatest British scandals of my lifetime. It implicates several huge names from City, Treasury, Bank of England & politics, who should go to their graves with throbbing consciences.

Andy Burnham should appoint inquiry (tricky as he was briefly Treasury minister). Much of worst Libor rigging - far worse than those convicted - was by Bank of England (with Treasury & No 10 urging) during 2008 financial crisis. We need to hear from PM at time, Gordon Brown.

This has been the most extraordinary financial and judicial scandal that I’ve covered in my career. For eighteen out of nineteen traders convicted, it turns out they were falsely tried. There are still so many questions to be asked. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqgk…

Incredible
I was convicted for talking to brokers (all subsequently acquitted) about Libor. Well here are the BOE asking Prebon to move their screens to attempt to move the published Euribor rate. Hmmm….
