What a night on the town!
Got to see the @BritishArmy's Next Generation Combat Team in action last night. Complex ambushes of armoured convoys, layered ISTAR assets, improved lethality and survivability.
Culminated in an attack in a department store!

Street-to-Street Fighting in Ramadi: U.S. Marines & Iraqi Army Under Sustained Insurgent Fire
Ramadi, Iraq, May 20, 2006. U.S. Marines attached to the 2nd and 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies (ANGLICO), alongside soldiers from the 1st Brigade of the Iraqi Army, conduct a patrol through a neighborhood as insurgents open sustained small-arms fire.
The footage captures the intensity of urban combat as Marines and Iraqi soldiers move through the streets, exchange fire, and take positions on rooftops. As the engagement continues, troops cross exposed areas between buildings while gunfire echoes throughout the neighborhood.
Ramadi’s dense urban terrain presented serious challenges for troops operating in the city. Narrow streets, closely spaced buildings, and elevated positions created an environment where hostile fire could come from nearby structures with little warning.
This combat footage documents the conditions faced by U.S. Marines and Iraqi Army soldiers during an urban patrol in Ramadi, showing the progression of the engagement from street-level movement to rooftop positions under sustained enemy fire.

Short🧵with lengthy video podcasts.
I enjoy researching, writing about & discussing urban warfare battles, using videos, photos & 3-dimensional maps to engage/assist the viewer.

I wholeheartedly agree with the point about training in real urban terrain. We absolutely should.
But... WTF is going on with an 8x soldier stack in the middle of the street & the double conga-line behind an open architecture vehicle!?!?
This is how you lose a whole section in seconds.
This little gem from @Nutspublishing arrived today, just in time for the weekend.
Looking forward to getting this to the table 🎲

On this day in 1956, Hungarian anti-communists rise up against Soviet rule. More than 3,000 civilians are killed when Moscow cracks down two weeks later.

This was collosally idiotic to stand in front of the tank, even if it was a blank charge. The muzzle blast is no joke and especially when it's contained in the urban canyon.
This is why it's so important for infantry and armour to train together for urban combat. It requires high levels of competence for coordination.
If that was a real, high pressure round, they would not be laughing.
Thanks to @MMaenpaa1 for sharing this and @BenedictLynx for the original post.

160th SOAR MH-60 making a rooftop troop delivery without needing to land or fast rope.
Once again we see why the Night Stalkers are unquestionably the best helicopter pilots on the planet.
The LASM was a great piece of kit and I don't know anyone who had a bad word to say about it.
Cheap, easy to use, lightweight. They could be handed out like sweets and used liberally.
Something we currently lack and could do with reintroducing.
Ancient? Yes.
Obsolete? No.
These simple, effective, versatile and cheap bomb throwers have been used across multiple modern conflicts, from Ukraine and Syria, to Iraq and Sudan.
Sometimes, simple works.

Still works to this day

Pleased to be online this afternoon to give a presentation on "Direct Fire Support Weapons in Urban Operations" to the Canadian Army's Infantry School's DFS Weapons Course:
Challenges, tips & tricks for their use in offensive/defensive urban operations & case studies included.
“Add smoke..and there will be a little bit of chaos”* Great to see the GUSFs being used so effectively, a much recommended watch!

On this day in 1944, American troops capture Aachen after 39 days of street fighting. The ancient Frankish capital, which has been called the "cradle of Europe," is the first city inside the borders of Germany to fall to the Allies.
Not my usual content, but Happy Trafalgar Day everyone!
An extra ration of grog for all! ⚓️🇬🇧
#OTD in 1805, the Royal Navy defeated the combined forces of France and Spain at Trafalgar.
The tactical brilliance, professionalism, technology and training which underpinned Adm Lord Nelson’s stunning victory have driven and shaped the Navy ever since.

Provocatice & disruptive.
I disagree (not least off 44 to 45 tactical data & a view that Ukraine is a curious petridish), but @Stu_Lyle lays out a compelling argument.
Worth a read!
"Drones and massed artillery drove combatants into urban terrain, dense woodblocks and trenches."
As @ArmyCGS calls for infantry to be more lethal from 0-40m, may I recommend my recent piece on exactly this type of extremely close combat. 👇
