I just don’t understand why Xhaka would say something like this, as if he gave Alonso the idea that won them the league. Alonso was playing a back 3 at Leverkusen before Xhaka joined and got them out of the relegation zone and into Europe. He also used it a lot at Sociedad B. So what exactly is Xhaka talking about here? A one-off game? They also played a back 4 a good number of times even when he was there and in the season after they won the league (where the finished 2nd)
