"@RuhullahMehdi will resign from the National Conference and his Lok Sabha seat on November 3, 2026.
The crown prince and his cabal treat J&K as an estate passed down through the family. They expect the people to vote, then know their place.
They take us for fools who cannot tell a broken promise from a political necessity. Ask them to honour their own manifesto, and they lecture us on how little we understand realpolitik.
We demanded the restoration of Article 370, the release of prisoners and the protection of our rights. They sought power on those promises, then treated us as fools for expecting them to deliver.
We refuse to lend our name to this humiliation. There is no fixing this rot from within.
The seat was won on a promise to the people.
@RuhullahMehdi will surrender it rather than make himself an accomplice to that promise’s betrayal.
He will address the people on the death anniversary of Martyr Aga Syed Mehdi at Behshit-e-Zehra Park, Budgam, on November 3. We welcome all to join."

A CORDIAL INVITATION TO ALL
Let us come together in unity, dignity, and solidarity.
On 3 November, we will observe the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Aga Syed Mehdi (RA). On this solemn occasion, @RuhullahMehdi Sahab is set to submit his resignation, citing @JKNC_’s betrayal for the political aspirations of the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, and its failure to stand firmly for the rights and aspirations we lost on 5 August 2019.
📍 Venue: Behisht-e-Zehra Park, Karipora, near DC Office, Budgam.
Everyone is earnestly requested to join us on this significant day and stand united in solidarity, dignity, and commitment to our collective voice.
UNITY | SOLIDARITY | OUR VOICE

Many people might disagree with my POV, and that’s absolutely fine.
My take: We all know that political parties may wear different colours, but ultimately, ek hi thaali ke chatte-batte hain sab.
Yet, in these times when trustworthy alternatives seem almost nonexistent, I feel this is someone worth placing our trust in. At least, he appears committed to the promises he made in his manifesto. Otherwise, how often do you see someone from a ruling party voluntarily resigning from their own MP seat?
While the NC seems busy fighting over a Cabinet reshuffle, this person has chosen to walk away from his parliamentary position. That, at the very least, deserves attention.
Remember the date: 3rd November.
May Allah bless Kashmir with fertile minds, political awareness, and the wisdom to recognise genuine leadership beyond party colours and slogans. 🤲

**Surah Al-Isra (17:34)**
> **وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْئُولًا**
>
> اور عہد کو پورا کرو، بے شک عہد کے بارے میں پوچھا جائے گا۔
>
> *Fulfil the pledge. Indeed, the pledge will be questioned.*
**1/ 🧵 — A promise is not forgotten simply because an election is over.**
In 2024, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were asked to place their trust in promises of statehood and the restoration of Article 370.
They voted. A government was formed. But the questions that brought people to the ballot box did not disappear with the election results.
**2/**
There is a difference between making a promise to win the trust of the people and accepting responsibility for that promise after winning power.
The first requires words. The second requires courage, consistency, and accountability.
And when the promise concerns the political future of an entire region, the obligation is greater still.
**3/**
August 2019 changed Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional and political landscape.
Article 370 was effectively rendered inoperative, and the former state was reorganised into two Union Territories.
For many people, this was not merely an administrative change. It raised fundamental questions about political autonomy, representation, identity, and the future of their relationship with the Indian Union.
**4/**
The National Conference sought a mandate on promises that included the restoration of Article 370 and statehood.
These were not insignificant campaign assurances. They addressed some of the most consequential political questions facing Jammu and Kashmir.
When a party asks people to trust it with such questions, it must expect to be questioned about them in return.
**5/**
An election is not a transaction in which a vote is exchanged for five years of silence.
It is a mandate accompanied by an obligation.
The people do not surrender their right to question the moment they cast their votes. If anything, that is when their right to demand accountability becomes most consequential.
**6/**
Statehood and Article 370 are distinct issues.
Restoring statehood would mean returning Jammu and Kashmir to state status within the Indian Union. Restoring Article 370 would involve a separate and far more complex constitutional question, shaped by the changes of 2019 and subsequent judicial decisions.
Neither should be reduced to a convenient slogan.
Both deserve honesty about what is possible, what has been attempted, and what remains unresolved.
**7/**
The elected government cannot unilaterally restore statehood or reinstate Article 370.
The Union government holds decisive authority over these matters, subject to the applicable constitutional framework.
But the limits of a government's authority do not eliminate its responsibility to explain its efforts, pursue its commitments, and remain answerable to the people who trusted it.
**8/**
There is a difference between failing to achieve an outcome and failing to demonstrate a credible effort towards it.
There is a difference between confronting institutional obstacles and offering those obstacles as a permanent answer.
And there is a difference between asking people for patience and giving them reasons to believe that their patience is being respected.
**9/**
This is where the question of political morality begins.
If a promise helped secure a mandate, what happens when that promise remains unfulfilled?
Does the responsibility end with a statement in an Assembly?
With a resolution?
With another speech?
Or does the obligation continue until the people receive an honest account of what has been done and what remains to be done?
**10/**
A resignation, too, must be understood in this context.
If a representative resigns over the gap between public promises and political outcomes, the act raises questions that go beyond the individual.
What principle is being defended? What accountability is being demanded? What concrete change is expected to follow?
A resignation alone cannot restore statehood or Article 370. Its significance rests on its stated reasons and the consequences it seeks to bring about.
**11/**
And the National Conference must be answerable for the promises it made.
The Union government must be answerable for the decisions and powers within its authority.
Accountability cannot be assigned selectively. It must follow the actual responsibilities of each institution.
The people deserve to know who can do what, what has been attempted, and why their expectations remain unmet.
**12/**
There is something deeply troubling about a political culture in which a promise can be repeated indefinitely without the public being given a clear account of its progress.
Words begin to replace action.
Declarations begin to replace scrutiny.
And the original demand risks becoming a permanent feature of political speeches rather than a matter of sustained political responsibility.
The people must not be expected to mistake repetition for progress.
**13/**
But this is not merely about one party, one leader, or one resignation.
The demand for statehood is larger than the National Conference. The political debate surrounding Article 370 is larger than a single election.
No party owns the aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir's people.
A party may represent a demand, but it cannot claim exclusive ownership of it—or immunity from criticism in its name.
**14/**
The people must be able to question the party they voted for without being accused of abandoning the cause.
They must be able to demand statehood while questioning the pace of the campaign for it.
They must be able to debate Article 370 without surrendering their right to scrutinise those who promised to fight for its restoration.
Democracy requires the freedom to question even those with whom we once placed our trust.
**15/**
And this is why the opening verse matters.
*Fulfil the pledge. Indeed, the pledge will be questioned.*
A promise is not made sacred by the person who makes it. It acquires moral weight because another person trusts it.
Political power may change hands. Governments may rise and fall. Circumstances may become complicated.
But none of that makes accountability irrelevant.
**16/**
The true measure of a mandate is not how convincingly it is announced, but how responsibly it is carried.
Not how many times a promise appears in a speech, but how transparently its progress is communicated.
Not whether a government can guarantee every outcome, but whether it has the integrity to pursue its commitments and tell the public the truth about its limitations.
**17/**
If statehood remains unresolved, explain the road ahead.
If Article 370 remains a constitutional demand, explain the legal and political realities surrounding it.
If obstacles stand in the way, identify them.
If commitments have not been fulfilled, account for them.
The people are entitled to something more meaningful than an endless cycle of promises, disappointment, and renewed appeals for patience.
**18/**
And if the instruction is to return to the people, then return to them with answers.
Return with a record of what has been done.
Return with an honest account of what has not.
Return prepared to face questions without treating scrutiny as disloyalty.
Because the people are not a political destination to be visited when convenient. They are the source of the mandate and the rightful audience for every explanation.
**19/**
Which brings us to the words that now carry a meaning far greater than a political gesture:
**کہا گیا عوام کے پاس جاؤ،
ہم عوام کے پاس آ گئے۔**
*We were told to go back to the people. So we came.*
But the real question is not whether we have returned.
It is whether we are prepared to answer for the promises that brought us here.
**20/20**
Surah Al-Isra reminds us that a pledge is not beyond accountability.
Statehood is not merely a campaign slogan. Article 370 is not a footnote in Jammu and Kashmir's political history. And a public mandate is not a licence to leave difficult questions unanswered.
The people entrusted their hopes to political representatives. They have every right to ask what has been done with that trust.
**A promise may win an election. Only accountability can give that promise meaning.**
And when the people ask for answers, the obligation is not theirs to explain why they are asking.
**The obligation belongs to those who made the pledge.**

VIDEO | National Conference MP from Srinagar Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi (@RuhullahMehdi) has decided to resign from the party as well as Parliament on November 3.
He says, "For the sake of the fight that I took, that I was fighting, it has now become very important for me to be clear and to follow the direction without any confusion. The way the party has behaved in the last two years and the way they try to malign my efforts that I did vis-a-vis my political responsibility, the collective agenda that that we had. I continued with the struggle, I continued with the fight, I believed in the principles of being committed to the people and working on that commitment with conviction. This conviction and this continuity or this consistency was maligned by my own party, casting aspersions to my person, casting aspersions to my struggle, they were heading, they still are heading in the opposite direction to what they committed in the elections. And that again is not helpful. That doesn't bring clarity to the fight..."

JKPSC cannot be left headless while aspirants watch their years of preparation and their last chance at selection slip away.
The government’s inaction is costing young people their future. Appoint a Chairman immediately and grant age relaxation to those losing their opportunity due to this delay. Aspirants must not be punished for the government’s failure.

Jamia Millia Islamia, Day 14.
Students asked for an elected union. They got guards tearing down their tents, disciplinary action, shut gates, and police loudspeakers ordering them off their own campus.
Four are on hunger strike. Students say even food and water are being stopped at the gate, and that force has been used against women protesters.
This is not how a university treats students . It should start listening to students.

On reservation, the excuse was Delhi.
On the stipend, there is no Delhi. The file is with this Government's own Finance Department. Its own Health Minister approved it. It came back anyway.
And when our interns went to ask why, they were humiliated. Told their education is a favour. Lectured, instead of answered.
Young doctors who carry our hospitals through the night deserve respect from those who govern, not contempt. Public money is not anyone's charity, and merit is not a favour.
We stood with our students then. We stand with our interns now.
When there is no one left to blame, who is stopping the order?
Today, an intern delegation met the OSD to Health Minister Sakina Masood Itoo and the Director General of Finance over the long-pending stipend hike for MBBS/BDS interns of J&K.
Instead of a concrete resolution, we were met with humiliating remarks. The OSD reportedly told us that the government was doing us a favour by providing free medical education.
Since when has public expenditure become anyone’s personal charity? The money belongs to the taxpayers of J&K, not to ministers or bureaucrats. We earn our degrees through merit, sacrifice and relentless hard work.
Thirty days of written assurance, another week of waiting, repeated meetings—and still no implementation order. When it comes to making commitments, the assurances flow freely; when it comes to delivering, the excuses never end.
Calling doctors beneficiaries of government generosity while dismissing their legitimate concerns is an insult to the entire medical profession. It takes neither courage nor leadership to lecture struggling interns; it takes accountability to honour your word.
The authorities should answer the people instead of humiliating their doctors. If the government cannot fulfil its commitments, it must take responsibility for the consequences of its continued inaction.
We will not trade our dignity for another hollow assurance. No more deadlines. No more empty words. We demand the order and its immediate implementation.
To the OSD: Either you take us for fools, or you seriously underestimate the intelligence of the people you are dealing with. Your conduct today reflected a complete lack of courage and accountability, making you appear more like a puppet of the government than an officer willing to stand by his word. Your actions have severely undermined your credibility and the respect your office is expected to command.
