“Populism is a term used by centrist liberals to describe political blowback from the disruption of society produced by their policies.” Oof, that is good by John Gray in the @NewStatesman

The name of every Ukrainian child murdered by Putin & his neo-Nazi thugs, every woman raped and burnt, every man bound and shot, should be carved in stone to be remembered 100 or 10,000 years from now. Remind our heirs of the dangers of appeasing tyranny as the West has done.

Yes, but now hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I’ve realised that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever.

If this is for real, then it’s confirmation of everything we have feared.

Using social platforms to expose and humiliate hourly supermarket workers in the middle of a pandemic for absolutely no reason other than sadism, a need for attention, and a complete lack of empathy:
I was just threatened w/assault at @kroger in Louisville because I asked another customer to wear a mask, and she refused.
I reported it to a manager, who found her and talked to her, but refused to do anything more.
His name is Andy, and he does not want Twitter to know that.

Looks like we need to close down the Guardian, which supported the South in the US civil war, attacked Lincoln, and railed against anti-slavery strikes in Manchester. theguardian.com/uk/2008/oct/…

The working class lacks a movement and leaders. Labour are embarrassed by it. The unions are more interested in middle class causes. Many Tories shudder at the thought of such unrefined specimens forming part of their electoral coalition.

One of these people was considered one of the most attractive in the world and the other one of the least, but for one brief shining moment, they looked exactly alike.

I like these kids. They are the real nonconformists, and I mean that 100% unironically. They have the courage to do something all their peers will consider terribly uncool and low-status.
What a refreshing contrast to the average Twitter user.
Whatever your anger, there is no excuse for defacing memorials to those who defended our freedom.
Well done to these youngsters for cleaning these vital symbols 👍🇬🇧 teapawt.net/playsatlife/status/126…

"The studies showing white liberals are angrier about racism than the average black American, has reached its consummation in the spectacle of peaceful black protesters remonstrating with white kids who just want to loot, burn and fight."
Great column.

Rereading old essays by Jonathan Rutherford, and he quotes this tremendous passage from Scruton:

As the people dwell on the symbols & myths of nationhood someone can always be relied upon to remind them also of what Orwell called the "emotional shallowness" of a left intelligentsia that lives "in a world of ideas not reality", severed "from the common culture of the country"

When it comes to the issue of immigration and its impact on wages curious to observe that the political left and right swapping sides from where they would have stood on the min wage debate 20yrs ago. This time the left side with the bosses, the right with the workers.
This graph shows how a typical care home worker is now paid less than a typical worker in almost *every* supermarket chain. When the care home sector says it needs immigration to keep wages down, it's unpersuasive. My column: telegraph.co.uk/politics/202… (Data: KingsFund, Feb19).

The Labour party membership is full of middle-class/middle-aged/well-educated/professionals predominantly in the public sector. Their instinct is to side with the bosses, not the workers, in this debate. What is the point in a *Labour* party such as this I openly wonder?

Any Lab leadership candidates want to talk about, ooh, I don't know, the cost of living, wages, jobs, pensions, tax? You know, what the rest of the country cares about, rather than self-indulgent bullshit student politics that makes us look like aliens from the Planet Gobshite

I won't hold my breath, because the source of our problem is that we're is now in thrall to the post-material liberal Left. They don't care about anything practical to do with day-to-day living because they are mostly too middle-class to worry about such banal considerations
