Hello to all my new followers! I love Video Games! I am a Smash and FGC competitor of 20+ years starting in 2004. I went from writing GameFAQs guides in the 2000s, to being in the Smash Doc, to casting Melee Majors. A founding member of the GA Melee HoF, hire me to cast Melee!
I think about the time Max Ketchum somehow got Jay fkn Eazy to perform at LMBM. He starts singing and everyone is (politely) sitting in silence until Jay Eazy patiently, gently guides a room of gamers to catch a vibe.
I went to Pokemon Night Out in LA last night and here's some thoughts.
I was an EDM producer and DJ for 12 years before YouTube, I've played on stages, clubs, podcast, radio shows, and over 1000 weddings in my career. And Obviously I'm a Pokemon Fan.
Marshmellow’s set was perfectly fine. But it was just a very generic EDC/Ultra set and wasn’t pokemon-centric at all. There’s a lot of Pokemon-related EDM songs (like Pika Pika by Steve Aoki) and a lot of great bootlegs of tracks like Lavander Town. So it was sad to see NO song selection related to the theme.
Anytime you see visuals synchronized (words on screen, etc) it is a clear sign it’s a prerecorded set, which is the industry standard for big performances.
There was a LOT of people sitting or standing on the floor, never moving, the bars were all empty, not singing any lyrics and just taking video… BUT anytime a pokemon appeared on screen, the stadium cheered. It was the strangest thing. There were some FAT drops, but Gengar showing up during a melody break got a bigger reaction.
It was just an interesting mashup of an event. It was a GREAT EDM show, but I feel like the theme drew a generally non-interested crowd.
I am autistic and “less is more” is good social advice. At events with people I don’t know but want to know better, I take 2-3 minutes to introduce myself, chat, then “gotta go but let’s chat more later!”
Overstaying your welcome annoys people, understaying upsets almost noone.
I agree with this, but even if stalling were “optimal” it still wouldn’t be a good idea.
Matches often last 6-8 minutes when you stall. 8 minutes is a LONG time. Do YOU, dear reader, think you can play optimal and avoid making a mistake for 8 full minutes against Cody Schwab?

melee has been optimized incredibly to the point where specific aggression (especially with jigglypuff) is not only better, but actually necessary to beat the best players in the world
in a lot of ways melee has aged beautifully compared to ultimate and is still being optimized. ultimate seems to be approaching a natural conclusion in terms of meta but I’d rather hope to be wrong
Gen 8 Zacian had me dedicating half my teams to trauma response checks and counters. Screens, quad resists like Rotom-Heat, defensive restricted like Groudon, and a scarf Lando T if ALL of that failed.
I’d really like to see a mod where characters get all 3 of Bounce, Screw, and Tornado, all usable once in a combo. I wanna see real calamity. It’d be like National Dex Ubers, but Tekken.

I have an AI agent that logs every negative comment someone makes about me online.
It then creates a profile of the person, maps all of their social connections, and finds all their emails.
Tomorrow morning, my AI agent will sent out an email blast to everyone's extended social network, detailing the horrible things they've said about me.
