If you want an idea of just how broad the Student List is ideologically, these two people both voted for them

Somehow all semi authoritarian states work this way without resisting at all

Seen a lot of americans trying to compare the BC election to an american one but don't really get it. We don't really have red states and blue states like in the US. Alberta is the closest thing to a one party province and the NDP might actually win next election there

There have been a lot of people in the Canadian Conservative movement who've been LARPing MAGA politics - with a lot of obnoxiousness attached to it.
First the Alberta vote, now BC.
The bullies many Tories feared have been exposed as all hat & no cattle.
Now it's our turn.

Congratulation to @LDoerkson, British Columbiaβs next premier, and the BC Conservative Party on their historic election victory.
Iβm looking forward to working together as we unlock our natural resources, continue to break down internal trade barriers and build a more competitive and united Canada from coast to coast to coast.
I also want to thank David Eby for his years of dedicated public service and wish him and his family all the best. Premier Eby has been an important part of Team Canada as we stood up to tariffs and worked together to protect Canadian sovereignty.

The lesson from BC is that conservatives shouldn't let an energized base dictate their choice of leader without considering the broader electorate. Lorne Doerkson's appeal lies in his contrast with both Kerry-Lynne Findlay and David Eby. Nobody until now seemed to learn from the last federal election. In trying to oppose Trudeau, Poilievre came to resemble the very thing he was opposing and when Trudeau left, Carney stood as a credible contrast. You don't need to build a conservative version of your opponent, especially when their own record is doing the work for you. You need to offer a credible alternative.

Somewhere, David Peterson is heaving a sigh of relief to no longer be the cautionary tale

βPulling an Ebyβ has officially entered the Canadian political lexicon
First Conservative victory since 1928 and the first time the Tories have formed government since 1949!
