I can't figure out if vaccines work or not. Tough one. I can see why RFK Jr is so concerned. Need Sherlock Holmes on this one.

🧵Battling Antivax Disinfo🧵 Vaccination did NOT increase cancer deaths. Here I took the 6 deadliest cancers (all 5 survival rates under 50%) in a highly vaccinated population (25-54), and we can see ZERO evidence of vaccine-related cancer deaths, all the way to May 2024. /1

Our books are significantly more important today than they were yesterday when it comes to patient care and public health. And that hurts, and I’m very sorry. @PeterHotez @19joho @CaulfieldTim

.@RadioFreeTom: “In the end, a majority of American voters chose Trump because they wanted what he was selling: a nonstop reality show of rage and resentment. Some Democrats, still gripped by the lure of wonkery, continue to scratch their heads over which policy proposals might have unlocked more votes, but that was always a mug’s game. Trump voters never cared about policies, and he rarely gave them any. (Choosing to be eaten by a shark rather than electrocuted might be a personal preference, but it’s not a policy.) His rallies involved long rants about the way he’s been treated, like a giant therapy session or a huge family gathering around a bellowing, impaired grandpa.”
Donald Trump won because he offered a majority of Americans what they wanted: anger and drama, @RadioFreeTom writes in The Atlantic Daily. But those who expect that Trump will hurt others, and not them, are likely to be unpleasantly surprised. theatlantic.com/newsletters/…

At the end of The Empire Strikes Back the rebels are desolate. Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Luke Skywalker has been defeated in battle by Darth Vader, losing a hand in the process. The Emperor's victory was total.... until the Jedi returned. Not sure what made me think of that.

Lotta people pointing out that removing fluoride from water would be very bad for dental health (yes- overwhelming evidence supports this) but it’s also worth mentioning that dental caries are a key modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease- it wouldn’t just be bad teeth.

People who fall for conspiracy theories have a greater tendency to detect patterns. But those patterns aren’t real. They’re random and illusory: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

As the world dawdled sending vaccines to Africa, the mpox cases increased 500 percent from the year before. Incredibly short-sighted. Does anyone really think that mpox won't spread to the rest of the world? reuters.com/world/africa/mpo…

Richard Feynman said in 1964 that scientists are TOO polite when it comes to correcting pseudoscience. He was 100% correct. If you think a scientist fact-checking a person on social media spreading misinformation is being “mean” - go review the idea of accountability. 1/

Chemophobia is the irrational fear or aversion of chemicals. It leads people to believe that chemicals are harmful at any level. Common statements include: •I only want natural ingredients •Vaccines have too many chemicals •I can't pronounce those ingredient names 1/
