This is what putting South Carolina first looks like.
I’m honored to have the support of two former governors — Republican David Beasley and Democrat Jim Hodges.
We may not agree on everything, but we share a belief that matters most: South Carolina deserves leaders who will always put its people first.

“We should be forever grateful to Pat Conroy, our very own prince of tides,” Sanders told the crowd at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on March 8, 2016.
Conroy once told a reporter that Sanders “is the greatest storyteller to ever come out of the South.” In his collection of stories in “Pat Conroy’s Cookbook,” Conroy called Sanders “mythical and larger than life” and titled his chapter about Sanders the “Greatest of all South Carolinians.”
Conroy was enchanted by Sanders’ voice, which he called “one of the most beautiful instruments I have ever heard.” That voice is “part wheeze, part thunder, with dashes of brogue, drawl and twang. With stresses and pauses, he seasons each phrase. A note of surprise often creeps into his voice, as if he is thinking, ‘Isn’t this amazing?

David Beasley spent more than three decades as a Republican, serving as South Carolina’s governor. He recently announced that he’s walking away from his party as he laments a rise in toxic vitriol emanating from the GOP’s standard-bearer.
"The vitriolic language, the demeaning, divisive, degrading that has taken place, is just completely out of control, and I don't want to be associated with that," he tells @RealAmnaNawaz.

So sad to hear of passing of #alexsanders. Judge Sanders led a remarkable life- great lawyer, legislator, judge, college president, law school founder, and world class storyteller. We ran for office together in 2002 and he said”I don’t want to be boring.” And he never was. RIP.
Be honest, who have you gotten more texts from in the last week?
Your spouse?
Or a political candidate?
I got into politics a hundred years ago because I was inspired by these types of messages.
I got out of politics because no one talks (or acts) like this anymore.
What a welcomed change in tone and overall approach this could be for American democracy.
Quite the tell.

Now this is leadership.
This is abhorrent. Elections don’t have to be about cruelty and lies. South Carolina deserves better. I urge voters to look at the merits of each candidate and cast their vote accordingly. We must reject politics based on division and hate. While South Carolinians can strongly disagree with one another, we can do so civilly and with honest intentions for the betterment of our communities and well being of our families.
Can’t stop thinking about this story
Mr. Goessling, who supplies windows and doors for construction projects, calls his birth father “Mike,” and they meet when the musician is in St. Louis, he said. Mr. McDonald has been a doting grandfather to Mr. Goessling’s son, 16, and daughter, 13.
Mr. Goessling has long been an advocate for adoption. “What might come from this story and the attention it’s getting all of a sudden is that the adoption narrative gets elevated in this country a little bit more and gets celebrated,” he said.
When Mr. Goessling grew out his beard and hair during the Covid pandemic, people would tell him, “I love the whole Michael McDonald thing you got going on there,” he said. Despite the resemblance, he never imagined they were related.
