I am Gen X. Boomer is right. Also, quit voting for Democrats who flood the market with cheap, illegal labor. This drives wages down at the bottom which results in lower wages throughout the economic system. It also drives up housing costs by creating excess demand. Grow up.

Everyone born before 1990 who lived paycheck to paycheck, had roommates to cover rent, and ate ramen on the daily, raise your hands! 👋
BOOMER: “Nobody wants to work anymore.” ME: “The warehouse is hiring at $19 an hour.” BOOMER: “That’s decent money.” ME: “Rent is $2,400.” BOOMER: “Get a roommate. Work weekends. Stop being picky.” Notice how every solution somehow means the worker has to sacrifice more. Lower your standards. Share a bedroom. Give up your weekends. Work overtime. Stay broke a little longer. But somehow the idea that a full time job should actually pay enough to live on never makes the list.

Yes but you did ARRIVE.
Went to a masquerade ball tonight, wore a mask, dress gloves, scarf, and a nice fancy coat. Almost immediately took them all off because it's a pain in the ass to dance while wearing that stuff.

One great part of parenting/being a grandparent is seeing the little ones delight in discovering the world. But you have to pay attention.

I don't really understand how people can't find toddlers interesting. It's super fun to watch them learn about the world, to see them grasp new things, do new things every other day.

BREAKING: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says having RAM in personal computers is an inefficient use of the world’s limited DRAM supply, arguing it would be better allocated to data centers, per Tom’s Hardware

Yeah turning college into a credentialing factory was a mistake and hopefully AI collapses all of that (and with it large chunks of higher Ed)

My husband was one of those students. He says he only went to college to play ball and get a job. (He'd like to go back now as an adult and learn.) Maybe if/when we move away from requiring a 4 yr degree just to get any old job, your quality of students will improve.

The kids have caught on to the scam.
Running against a wall I think a lot of faculty are up against: [a lot of] students don't really want to learn from us, they just need us to be part of a broad set of experiences & hoop-jumping that leads to a credential. Facing that reality & that I get paid crap this morning.

In the south, one odd cultural marker of being low key quasi-aristocracy is that they always know where to get an excellent and well-bred dog. This is not the sort of person who chases down show breeders, or flashes cash for bloodlines they can then preen about. No, they simply know someone no one has ever heard of who has been quietly breeding the most stable and solid and sweetest labradors you’ve ever seen for like 5 human generations, on some horsey estate somewhere that’s mildly down-at-the-heels.

That’s odd. APA-accredited clinical and professional psychology programs have run 75–80% female for years with no comparable concern over the resulting male underrepresentation.
Let's not pretend that anyone wants to go to a college that's 75% male. MIT giving half the slots to females is totally reasonable.

We still performatively gasp & express horror at those unapologetic corporate raiders and downsizers of the 80s and 90s: the Carl Icahns, the Al Dunlops, the Jack Welches. Meanwhile, worse of that ilk have now moved on to do the same to whole countries. Serving what shareholders?

What your experiencing is what we have been dealing with in trucking over the past few decades. You’re not dealing with a shortage, but rather high turnover. The wages are too low because there’s an oversupply between entry-level workers vs experienced workers. Good luck.
I just talked to a tool vendor that's been selling tools for 35 years he said he's never seen the field so dry the technical talent is drying completely up Every single shop is hiring Machinists, programmers, maintenance technicians. At this point you can pretty much we walk in and set your price

I managed a CNC shop floor and their materials program for a year. They started people at $15 an hour and expected people to operate two machines simultaneously within a month. The immigrants they'd hire would wise up and get a job at Target for $18.
1. Being a machinist pays the same as McDonald’s 2. When they say this, it’s a complaining about the price of labor, not to help you young man. Run far , far away from this field

Delightful shoe-leather journalism uncovers an audacious bit of caregiver fraud by monitoring just one guy. Tip of an iceberg if I’ve ever seen one.

Daily Wire surveillance in PA shows that scammers know how to bypass the fraud prevention system of Medicaid "home care" & doing so has become so common that people aren't even trying to hide it. Refugees are billing $80k+ without lifting a finger. READ: dailywire.com/news/to-catch-…

It has been over 20 years now that clean energy has not been able to be a stand alone industry. Clean energy is unreliable and expensive and will always need oil and gas as a back up.

All our friars over 80 have to take a driving test each year, administered by our insurer. If they don't pass, they're done driving. Anyway, today one of them improved on the cognitive test for the 2nd year in a row so now he's convinced that he's on the way to super intelligence

Wait for their return and dump it all over their truck.
The next door neighbors (yes, the one with the obsessive pot smoker stay at home dad) have a lawn service that parks on the side of my corner lot and tosses their beer and soda bottles into my planting beds. I just picked up half a plastic garbage bag of them. What should I do?
