🪖 Pte. Liam Ramage, 27, is fighting for his life after the CFB Wainwright fire.
Third and fourth degree burns over 40% of his body, face, head, neck, hands, arms, legs. He can’t see. Barely move or speak. Months of surgeries and skin grafts ahead.
Four brothers killed. Dozens more critically burned. He still tried to help others.
Blood donors saved him. 🩸 Canadians: donate blood, support his recovery, demand the very best for our troops.
They signed the blank cheque. We owe them more. 🇨🇦

Bill C-223 is being sold as legislation that will save children’s lives. But the witnesses I questioned raised serious concerns that it could actually cause more harm.
Protecting children from abuse must include protecting them from parental alienation. We cannot ignore one form of harm while trying to prevent another.

Our thoughts remain with everyone impacted by the tragic incident at CFB Wainwright... 💔
In the hours that followed, healthcare teams at Wainwright Health Centre came together in an extraordinary response.
At the Wainwright Health Centre, 137 hospital staff were on site that night, compared with fewer than 20 on a typical Saturday night 🤯
Physicians and staff from outside the community joined local teams to care for 39 emergency patients.
The teams worked to assess and stabilize patients before they were transferred to hospitals in Edmonton and Calgary for more specialized care.
“We’re proud of everyone,” says site manager Shawn Virtue.
“Not just for what they accomplished (last) weekend.
This is always an incredible group of people.”
On Thursday, Canadian Armed Forces leadership visited Wainwright Health Centre to personally thank the healthcare teams.
Among those recognized was administrative assistant Gayle Goebel, pictured receiving a handshake of thanks from a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Physicians and staff were presented with special recognition coins, while the hospital received a plaque bearing a simple message of gratitude:
“With heartfelt appreciation for your tireless care and compassion, thank you.” ❤️

WOUNDED WAINWRIGHT SOLDIERS FACE MONTHS, EVEN YEARS OF RECOVERY! 🚨
The soldiers severely burned in the devastating fire at CFB Wainwright are facing a long and difficult road to recovery, doctors say.
The Oct. 17 training-ground fire killed four Canadian Armed Forces members and injured dozens more.
Of the 39 service members initially taken to hospitals across Alberta, many suffered serious burns, with some remaining in critical condition.
Burn specialists warn that severe burn injuries can require months of hospitalization, multiple surgeries, skin grafts and extensive rehabilitation.
Patients also face serious risks including infection, respiratory complications and organ problems.
Doctors say the challenge extends far beyond the initial emergency treatment.
Even after leaving the hospital, severely burned patients may need years of medical care, physical therapy and support as they adjust to life after their injuries.
“This is a really prolonged incident and will require significant resources for months to years to come,” said burn disaster preparedness expert, Danielle Fuchko.
Burn specialists from other provinces have also offered support as Alberta's health-care system continues caring for the wounded.
Our thoughts are with the injured soldiers, their families and everyone affected by this tragedy ❤️😢

There was once a shepherd who found a wolf caught in a snare at the edge of his pasture.
The wolf begged to be freed.
“I was hungry,” it said. “That is all. Spare me, and I will remember your mercy!”
The shepherd cut the rope.
The next night, three lambs were gone.
Again the shepherd found the wolf. Again it pleaded. Again the shepherd convinced himself that mercy was proof of his goodness.
By winter, half the flock was dead.
An old farmer finally asked him, “Why do you keep freeing it?”
The shepherd answered, “Because I refuse to become cruel.”
The farmer looked at the empty field and said, “Then understand what you have done. You were not merciful to the wolf. You were cruel to everything that trusted you to keep them safe.”
That’s the lesson.
Mercy without judgment isn’t virtue. When someone openly intends to destroy what has been entrusted to you, endless forgiveness doesn’t make you righteous. It makes everyone behind you pay for your vanity.

A good read for those involved and the families in this tragic #Wainwright fire event.

To highlight this point, this include stretchers onsite, communications internal, and external in the emergency 🚨 vehicle, currency of their medical training, medic and assigned first aiders and physically fit.

Even if policies prescribe differential treatment b/w Reg F & Res F mbrs, inequity isn't immune from grievance. Policy application itself can constitute a grievable decision/act/omission. A policy doesn't have to be deliberately discriminatory for consequences to be challenged.

Comprehensive.
I would recommend adding what I learned in my safety training; often the DND 663 is forgotten.
Then again, the role of a unit/general safety officer is not something the Army seem familiar with.

Short🧵
When Colonel John McCrae wrote "In Flanders Fields" in 1915 he probably did not realize that his use of the Flanders poppy would become such a small yet powerful symbol of remembrance that would allow us to recall such large sacrifice.
Same treatment is found in Canada. CAF & VAC abandon their veterans.
Shocking neglect and abuse of retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, a natural born leader of men who spent 40 years in service to his country, and his son's long fight for justice. Please share Ben's post widely: "My father, Retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, is a man who spent nearly 40 years in dedicated service to this country, serving from 1970 until 2009. He is a natural leader, a decorated soldier, to those who served with him. However, he has been completely abandoned and betrayed by the very system he gave everything to.
I am fighting for justice for my father. This struggle is a mirror of my own life; my own journey marked by the negligence of MPs, charities, and veteran services which led me to the absolute rock bottom of homelessness as a veteran myself. I know exactly what it is like to be discarded by the people who promised to provide support.
After years of fighting, we finally have a pathway toward the right care, but the damage is already done. The sheer scale of the failings along the way has crippled a man who likely only suffered from PTSD. What should have been a manageable recovery became a total collapse because of institutional incompetence.
This isn't a failure of one person or one office it is a systemic rot. For too long, the UK government, regardless of which side of the fence they sit on, has played a political game with the lives of our veterans. Whether it is Labour or the Conservatives, the result is the same: service men are treated as assets when they are useful and as liabilities the moment they are broken. We are told our sacrifices are "remembered," but the reality is that once the uniform comes off, the care vanishes.
We sought help for my dad, worried about PTSD and dementia resulting from his service. Through the SAS Association and Veterans’ Aid, he was referred to various healthcare facilities. Instead of professional care, he found negligence from these referrals.
In the last few years alone, he has been through multiple institutions that have failed him. We've dealt with incorrect diagnoses, doctors who tried to push him out of their care because he was "too difficult," and the removal of life-saving medication that led to him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He was sedated and left to decline without specialist care. His PTSD was completely ignored, and his medical history was dismissed. In one instance, he was admitted to the hospital due to low sodium caused by the excessive use of anti-psychotic medication.
The most infuriating part is the silence from the top. MPs have explicitly ignored this situation and failed to act for a Lt Col in 22 SAS. The "Military Covenant" is nothing more than a piece of paper used for photo opportunities while men like my father are left to rot.
The system has failed. The NHS has failed. Veteran charities have failed. From the MOD passing the buck to the medical incompetence of the facilities, my father has been abandoned like thousands of others.
I am posting this because we need accountability. It is not enough to simply "help" now; there must be justice for the way he was treated. My father spent four decades looking after his men and serving at the highest level for the United Kingdom; it is a national disgrace that the government failed to look after him and many like him.
Do not listen to the rhetoric the government continues to push. As this is an example of what happens after 40 years of dedicated service.
Please share this. We need the people in power to answer for this. We need leaders who actually lead, not politicians who just talk."

In the House Veterans committee, witnesses discussed the critical issue of civilian recognition of military skills, emphasizing the need for streamlined pathways for veterans transitioning to civilian employment. Dr. John Whelan highlighted the diverse needs of veterans and the importance of tailored support, while Michelle Bussey from the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency underscored collaborative efforts to align military training with civilian certification standards. Peter Stoffer, Chairperson of the Veterans Legal Assistance Foundation, raised concerns about the challenges veterans face during their transition, particularly regarding communication between the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs Canada.
