Yes, people who are Blind, Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing can experience #VisualSnowSyndrome (VSS). 💙
🧠 VSS involves differences in how the brain processes visual and sensory information. Because visual snow is generated by the brain, reduced vision or
sensory experience. These symptoms can make everyday tasks more challenging, but current scientific evidence does not indicate that VSS causes blindness or deafness.
🤝 Inspired by a collaboration between VSI Founder Emeritus Sierra Domb and
ASL/English interpreter Tarra Grammenos, this article highlights why diverse experiences deserve recognition. VSS should not be assumed to be present or absent based only on someone’s vision or hearing ability.

The Visual Snow Initiative’s Medical ID and Travel Card was created specifically for people living with #VisualSnowSyndrome . 🪪
The card includes:
👁️ A description of VSS
✨ Symptoms you may experience
🤝 Guidance on how others can help
📋 The ICD-11 code
personnel, family, or friends who may be unfamiliar with VSS.
The idea came from Founder Emeritus Sierra Domb’s experiences living with VSS and multiple invisible illnesses. 💙 Her goal was to make self-advocacy more accessible and help others communicate their needs when their
symptoms may not be immediately understood or accommodated.
