#Brazil’s election: end of right-wing “wave” or end of anti-incumbency? Or maybe it’s all about @LulaOficial! 🤔
As I argued in @wpreview, Latin American voters have barely moved ideologically & grade incumbents on delivery. Lula ran on record-low unemployment & a 15% welfare increase w/ approval underwater at 48-50, against a highly polarizing opponent, & won a narrow, conditional verdict. His 4th term opens w/ an opposition majority in Congress, public debt above 82% of GDP, & Flávio refusing to concede.

Trump's foreign policy isn't "realist" or non-ideological.
In @WPReview, I argue that the U.S. is shifting from democracy promotion to the promotion of right-wing populism abroad.

Was the War in Gaza a Genocide? In light of Navi Pillay's Nobel Peace Prize, I explore that question in my latest for @WPReview. The short answer: it's a legally high bar to cross, deliberately (and perhaps unreasonably) so.
