If you’ve been laid off or otherwise pushed out of Twitter since he took over, get in on this!
Make him pay what you’re owed.

Yeah, he sucks. But so do most of the people who’ve been in charge of this place before.
We’ve never been here here for them — we’re here for our community, our friends, our peers.
I’m choosing to focus on the good parts of what’s here. As long as they remain, so will I.

Now my app’s product page shows gambling ads, which I’m really not OK with.
Apple shouldn’t be OK with it, either.
The App Store has corrupted such a great company so deeply. They make so much from gambling and manipulative IAPs that they don’t even see the problem anymore.

@marcoarment You know what’s worse than having to pay hundreds of $$$ to try out Apple’s new ad scheme? Seeing that they’re advertising online gambling on @OvercastFM’s page on the App Store.

Abhorrent.
And yet, I’m not surprised at all. When ads become more algorithmic, people find fraudulent ways to cheat and make more money.
The endgame: algorithmic podcast ads, which already degrade the listener experience, get further devalued and the entire industry loses.
NEW: podcast companies are buying millions of listens through auto-playing episodes populated in free mobile games. iHeart, the top podcast publisher on Podtrac, has bought around 6 million unique downloads per month since 2018 bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Much like the Battle of Yavin serves as a convenient chronological anchor for outside observers that doesn't work as an in-universe calendar, the end of Google Reader allows the deeply online to reminisce about the moment before social timelines and algorithmic amplification

Fascinating 🧵 on how graduation gowns commonly seen across the world today originated from the Muslim thawb or qamees. Students from Europe continued to dress in them after returning home as an indication that they graduated from a Muslim University.

1/ Founded by a Muslim woman, Fatima El-Fihriya in 859, Al-Qarawiyyan University, Fez in Morocco is one of the oldest universities in the world & the oldest library in Africa. It also holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest working university, & is still in use today

Indie devs often think they can’t compete with big companies.
But big companies almost never take advantage of new features on day one. Some never do them.
Every time iOS adds new abilities that big companies don’t adopt, that’s an opportunity for people to switch to your app.
Wait. @audible_com doesn’t have a widget???
How can this be?
Am I missing something?

Cheap, sloppy dynamic ad insertion (DAI) in podcasts continues to degrade the experience for listeners.
They blame the app, and that’s my problem to deal with.
But DAI podcasters: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! You’re throwing your audience away. These people will leave podcasts forever.

It's easy to say with hindsight that NFTs are a stupid scam but it was also easy at the beginning to say that and through the middle too

I’m with @gruber on Netflix’s woes: daringfireball.net/linked/20…
Netflix used to be all we watched. Now, almost every good new show is somewhere else, and Netflix has become an endless sea of mediocre, time-wasting filler.
Fix the content, and the subscribers will follow.

Men are told they are entitled to an ideal masculinity and to blame the world if they're denied it. Women are told they must work towards an ideal femininity and to blame themselves if they fail to reach it.

The reality — that a LOT of their “services revenue” is a 30% commission from sleazy games exploiting gambling psychology to extract money from people, many of whom are children — is SO uncomfortable that they keep repeatedly asserting the opposite, to the world and themselves.

It's -once again- my duty too talk about PONTYPOOL (2009) and suggest people give its try... it's available on Itunes. One of the great ones- uh? @scottEmovienerd

Apple’s billing process makes it so hard to track which purchases by which family members correlate to which credit-card charges that I’ve been trained to mostly ignore them.
I wonder how much “services revenue” is uncaught fraud.
I bet it’s not a small amount of money.
