Last Friday, I successfully defended my PhD and then graduated. Two-for-one, if you will. It was a long road. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way.

One-third of the more than 1 100 000 confirmed COVID-19–related deaths were considered preventable if public health recommendations had been followed. A tiny number of Physicians’ who spread misinformation about COVID-19 on social media likely played a role.
Misinformation kills. 52 American physicians actively spread Covid-19 misinformation to millions of people on social media about vaccines, masks, and conspiracies. One third of the more than 1,100,000 Covid-19-related deaths as of January 18 2023 were preventable if public health recommendations were followed. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

In case you missed it: Women are less likely to be credited for their scientific contributions than men. It’s true across multiple fields & at all stages, with important repercussions for career progress. #WomenInSTEM #WomenInMedicine #MedTwitter nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

In academic seminars, 'Men are > 2.5 times more likely to pose questions to the speakers. This male skew was observable only in those seminars in which a man asked first question. When a woman did so, gender split disappeared'. CHAIRS PLEASE NOTE FIRST Q TO A WOMAN - EVERY TIME.

Big new paper from an MCMP academic sibling. It’s great to see good people whose paths crossed ours for a short while flourishing out there in the big bad world. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Extremely biased but I love this paper. Phil science at its best: technical knowledge wielded to clarify a distinction practitioners miss to the detriment of their work. And also the first paper published by a student of mine while my student! Open access link.springer.com/article/10…
