"You can't make this up". Gooooooood late afternoon or evening! I just finished writing the Weather 20/20 Intelligence report showcasing how despite an ENSO shift from La Niña to a developing El Niño, the weather pattern is still the same, which shares the fact I have been sharing for over two decades. Summer begins in less than three weeks and the jet stream is shifting north. A weak storm will be approaching this weekend with an increasing probability of showers and thunderstorms in KC. Any significant severe weather risk will hold off until around the 10th to the 13th. Have a great evening! Here is the link: open.substack.com/pub/weathe…

Gooooooooood morning. If you had to choose just one — would you take 100 degrees or 0 degrees? Tell me why in the comments… I will tell you my choice in the first comment. Now, take a look at this one-page Farmers’ Almanac Winter Outlook. Notice how every single region of the United States has a dramatic headline of something wild happening? That’s how they grab attention — but it’s not science, and history shows these forecasts miss the mark and are accurate perhaps 25% of the time. By contrast, the Lezak Recurring Cycle (LRC) is rooted in atmospheric science. Each fall, a brand-new, unique weather pattern sets up and cycles regularly—providing a foundation to make accurate long-range forecasts. That means by early December, once the new LRC is established, we’ll release the Weather 20/20 Winter Outlook with precise, science-driven details on temperature and storm risks through spring. The difference? The LRC has verified at 90%+ accuracy on severe weather forecasts, and we’ve shown unmatched success in predicting hurricanes and winter storms months in advance. The KSHB Bloggers named it the LRC in 2003. Stay tuned—our outlook will tell the real story of winter ahead. For now, have some fun with this outlook and we will look back in March and see how it did! #LRC #Weather2020 #WinterForecast #ScientificForecasting #Meteorology

The United States is moving into phase 1 of this year's cycling weather pattern, which has been the wetter phase for KC. 25" of the 34" of rain that has fallen since October when the LRC set up has occurred during this phase 1. There is a slow moving summer storm system developing and approaching and it is lining up to potentially have KC near the bullseye of heaviest rain between now and Tuesday. Here is the forecast I just drew up. I will discuss this in our tropical update as well on our Weather2020.substack.com report that I will have posted soon. Have a great Saturday!

Here is one of the "ridge riders" riding across the Ring of Fire. A huge complex of thunderstorms is just northwest and west of Omaha, NE with a raging line of thunderstorms in Iowa tonight. We will analyze the next series of disturbances in the morning. Our 50% discount continues for a few more days. Remembering Gary England – A Friend, Mentor, and Pioneer Gary England passed away peacefully last night at 85-years old. He was a very big influencer on my life, my success in my career. In 1980, I moved to Oklahoma to start my college journey at the University of Oklahoma. Little did I know, this would lead me to one of the most influential relationships of my life. Gary England quickly became my favorite meteorologist in Oklahoma City — a towering figure in the field of severe weather forecasting and on air weather broadcasting. In my senior year, a long story that I’ll always cherish, Gary took me under his wing and made me his intern. This was in 1985, and this moment marked the beginning of a mentorship that would last decades. In 1986, the day of the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, Gary called me to tell me the morning meteorologist had said a bad word (you know which one) on the air, and that I have an interview at 2. I started the next morning and worked as the morning meteorologist until 1992 when I moved to Kansas City. I had the privilege of working closely with him, learning from one of the most innovative and passionate meteorologists in the industry. And even after I moved to Kansas City, our friendship only deepened. Gary had a unique style when it came to presenting severe weather — one that was built on authenticity, trust, and clarity. He was a true pioneer in how meteorologists communicated the power and danger of severe thunderstorms, ensuring that viewers understood both the science and the urgency when tornadoes threatened. His ability to connect with the public during times of crisis during tornado risks was a skill I worked to emulate throughout my own career. When I first introduced Gary to the concept of the Lezak Recurring Cycle (LRC), he listened intently, then said, in December, 2009, a statement I will never forget, “Lowzack, I saw it — it’s the same, but different. But now I can’t see it anymore (the LRC is so complex and you need to stare at it almost every day. I’ll never forget those words, and yes he called me "Lowzack from 1986 through a few weeks ago when I had my last conversation with him. He had that ability to just make people laugh. In many ways, Gary has been on this journey with me and I of course was inspired by him. We talked about everything from Oklahoma’s snowstorms to severe weather, to the Sooners, and many of life's twists and turns, and I always left those conversations with a greater sense of purpose. His wife, Mary, and I became good friends over the past three decades, and we shared many conversations that are now treasured memories. I have always felt blessed to have been a part of their lives, and I will continue to cherish the friendship we all shared. I have become friends with Molly, their daughter, and she would keep me up to date on many things, and the health issues Gary dealt with the past few years. It’s hard to put into words what Gary meant to me. He was not just a mentor, but a true friend who always believed in me. His influence on my career, and on countless others, will never be forgotten. Gary, you were a legend, a true pioneer, and a constant source of inspiration. You will be deeply missed. RIP, my dear friend. And, I am sending positive energy to Mary, Molly, and anyone else that Gary inspired in his incredible life!
