Choosing an assisted living home for a parent?
I run small group homes in the Goodyear and Surprise area of Arizona. Here are 7 things I'd check before signing anything.

Doctor: Your bone scan's come back. Osteoporosis in the hip. I'll start you on alendronate, calcium and vitamin D, and I'd be careful with anything heavy.
Patient: What makes bone grow?
Doctor: Calcium, mainly.
Patient: My daughter's cat gets calcium. Why hasn't it got my skeleton?
Doctor: Bone responds to load as well. Weight through it.
Patient: Load.
Doctor: Within reason.
Patient: So the one thing that tells bone to get thicker is the thing you've just told me to be careful with.
Doctor: We don't want a fracture.
Patient: What did I do for the last twenty years?
Doctor: Walked, I expect.
Patient: Walked, swam, did the aerobics class, and ate low fat because my husband's cholesterol was up. Skimmed milk since 1998. Margarine. The lot.
Doctor: Those are sensible choices.
Patient: They've got me a hip like a wafer. What does the tablet do?
Doctor: It slows the cells that break down old bone.
Patient: So the old bone stays.
Doctor: It preserves density.
Patient: It preserves old bone. Does old bone that can't be cleared out get stronger or just older?
Doctor: There's a small risk of unusual fractures with long use, which is why we review at five years.
Patient: So the tablet that stops me breaking a bone can break a bone.
Doctor: Rarely.
Patient: My mother carried coal up two flights of stairs until she was eighty and drank the top of the milk. Nobody scanned her. Nobody needed to.
Doctor: Different generation.
Patient: Same hips. She loaded hers. You've told me to rest mine, and given me a tablet to keep the old bits in. I'll take the calcium. In cheese. And I'm going to the gym on Thursday to pick something up.
Doctor: Start light.
Patient: Light is what got me here.

In the 1930s a Cleveland dentist fed the poorest children in the city one proper meal a day, changed nothing else about their lives, and their tooth decay stopped.
Weston Price picked the children himself. Mill workers' kids from a run-down district, chosen because their mouths were the worst he could find.
At home they lived on white bread, sweets and coffee loaded with sugar. Nobody touched that. Nobody handed out a toothbrush.
Instead, six days a week, they walked to a church mission at midday and queued for a meal.
First, a teaspoon of cod liver oil mixed with butter from cows grazing on young spring grass.
Then a bowl of stew made with marrow bones and tender meat. Some days fish chowder, some days organ meats instead.
Rolls from freshly ground wheat, thick with the same yellow butter. A little juice, some stewed fruit. And two glasses of whole milk.
One boy was so weak at the start that nobody was sure he could manage the two-block walk to the mission.
Within weeks Price recorded that the decay had been brought under control in every child in the group. Teeth that had been crumbling began to harden.
Then the teachers came looking for him. Two of them separately wanted to know what had been done to one child, who had gone from among the slowest in the class to among the best.
One meal a day. Marrow, butter, fish, organs and whole milk, against a home diet of sugar and white bread.
Ninety years later, a struggling child in a British school gets a free lunch of pasta, a vegetable portion and a yoghurt with a cartoon on the lid.

What an interesting read...........
On Jeopardy the other night, the final question asked: “How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb of the Unknown?”
All three contestants missed it.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb and why?
He takes 21 steps — symbolizing the 21-gun salute, the highest military and foreign tribute.
2. How long does he pause before turning to walk back and why?
He waits 21 seconds, again in honor of the same tradition.
3. Why are his gloves damp?
They are lightly moistened to ensure he never loses his grip on his rifle.
4. Does he keep his rifle on the same shoulder, and if not, why?
He always carries it on the shoulder farthest from the Tomb. After each crossing, he performs an about-face and moves it to the outside shoulder.
5. How often are the guards changed?
Every 30 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year.
6. What are the physical requirements for a Tomb Guard?
Applicants must be between 5'10" and 6'2" and have a waist no larger than 30".
Other expectations of the Guard:
They devote two years to the Tomb, live in the barracks beneath it, and must refrain from drinking alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives.
They can never swear in public or dishonor the uniform or the Tomb.
After two years, they earn a wreath pin signifying their service — fewer than 400 are currently worn.
If they violate the code, they must relinquish the pin.
Their shoes have thick soles to protect against extreme temperatures and metal heel plates that create the crisp click when they halt.
Uniforms must have zero wrinkles or lint and are inspected in a full-length mirror.
For the first six months, guards do not speak to anyone and do not watch television.
Their off-duty time is spent studying the 175 notable individuals buried at Arlington National Cemetery, memorizing who they are and where they rest.
Among them: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis, and Audie Murphy, the most decorated WWII soldier.
Every guard spends five hours daily preparing their uniform.
ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM, O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.
When Hurricane Isabel approached Washington, D.C. in 2003, Congress shut down for two days. The guards were offered permission to suspend duty due to danger.
They replied: “No way, Sir!”
Drenched and marching through the storm, they insisted that guarding the Tomb is the highest honor, not just a task.
The Tomb has been continuously guarded — day and night — since 1930.
God Bless and Keep Them
I don’t often encourage sharing posts, but I would be honored if this one reached as many people as possible. We should always feel proud of the men and women who serve, wherever they are stationed.
Duty – Honor – Country
IN GOD WE TRUST — with Herbert F Wieland.

Some claims in this post are inaccurate. The Society of the Honor Guard says the Tomb has been guarded since 1937, the guard changes hourly in winter, sentinels can drink off duty, and there is no lifetime ban on alcohol or swearing.

*Maturity taught me that* not every woman is a Proverbs 31 woman. And honestly, that’s okay.
*Some women are Deborahs* — called to lead, speak boldly and stand on the front lines.
*Some are Ruths* — loyal, humble and faithful even when nobody is watching.
*Some are Esthers* — positioned for influence, with courage rising when the moment calls for it.
*Some are Marys* — chosen to surrender and carry a purpose they didn’t fully understand.
*Some are Hannahs* — shaped by prayer, waiting, tears and a faith that refuses to die.
*Some are Abigails* — wise, discerning and brave enough to step in before things fall apart.
*Some are Miriams* — worshippers, leaders and women who know how to praise God after surviving battles.
*Some are Rahabs* — women with complicated pasts who prove that your beginning does not have to determine your ending.
*Some are Naomis* — women who have lost so much, yet somehow find the strength to begin again.
*Some are Lydia’s* — business-minded, resourceful women who use what they have to make room for others.
*Some are Priscillas* — women who teach, guide and build alongside others.
*Some are Mary Magdalene’s* — women whose lives were transformed by God and who carried their testimony boldly.
*And then there are Jezebels* — a reminder that influence without humility, power without accountability and manipulation can destroy everything around you.
*The Bible didn’t give us only one type of woman.*
*It gave us leaders.*
Warriors.
Mothers.
Worshippers.
Entrepreneurs.
Intercessors.
Survivors.
Women who waited.
Women who fought.
Women who failed.
Women who were restored.
And women whose lives became warnings.
*So stop expecting every woman to look* the same, love the same, lead the same or walk the same path.
*You don’t have to be another woman*. You just have to become the woman God created YOU to be. ❤️🔥🙏🏾

In 1928 a Chicago paediatrician let babies choose their own dinner from 34 foods, and for six years not one of them chose the way the pamphlet says.
Clara Davis took fifteen infants just weaned, and put a tray in front of them at every meal.
Beef, lamb, chicken, liver, kidney, brains, bone marrow, fish, eggs, milk, bananas, oats, carrots, peas, cabbage, salt. Nothing processed. No sugar.
Nobody steered. The nurse held the spoon, the baby pointed.
One boy ate seven eggs a day for a stretch. Another lived on bananas for a fortnight and then would not look at one.
They chewed bone marrow. They drank the beef juice. They pushed the greens round the tray.
One baby arrived with rickets. She put cod liver oil on the tray and left it there. He drank it, unprompted, until the rickets healed, and then never touched it again.
Six years. Not one case of stomach trouble. Not one deficiency. Visitors said they had never seen healthier children.
The doctors who examined them wrote it up as the wisdom of the body.
Nobody had taught these children that the yolk was bad or the marrow was rich or the cabbage was the healthy part.
Left alone with the food, a one-year-old built itself a diet heavy in the animal and ate the plants as a side when the mood took it.
The experiment is almost a century old. The pamphlet is still telling his mother to start with the carrot.

American strawberry fields are being DRENCHED in cancer-linked pesticides — while workers are in full-head-to-toe hazmat suits, respirators, and gloves!
Two workmen, spraying poison directly onto the berries that will soon hit grocery stores nationwide. These are the “fresh” strawberries your family eats.
If the chemicals are so toxic that the *applicators* need full-body protection… what exactly are we feeding our kids?
This isn’t “farming.” This is chemical warfare on our food supply.
It’s time to Make America Healthy Again. Boycott the poison. Grow your own. Demand clean food. Seek out local 'pick your own' strawberry venders and farmer's markets.

Laken Riley had a Garmin smartwatch on when she was attacked
Her heart rate jumped to 170 bpm which told investigators that was when she was being attacked
It lasted for 17 minutes then suddenly stopped - that's when the animal finally killed her
So the next time you want to tell me about how unfair illegal immigrants are being treated I want you to set a timer for 17 minutes and watch it go by so you can understand how long that young woman fought for her life
