Harry Chapin released "Cat's in the Cradle" in 1974. Fathers are still living it.
A man in my cohort told us about stopping by his grown son's place:
"I just had one of those cats in the cradle situations... hey, son, I would like to come over... He goes, oh, dad, I'll see you later... I didn't see him, and I remember feeling really sad about it."
That's the song. The son grows up just like his dad. Busy. Always later.
Here's the hard truth underneath it: our kids learn how to make time for people by watching whether we made time for them.
If your kids are still at home:
1. Say yes to the next thing they ask you to do, even if it's inconvenient.
2. Put your phone in another room for one full hour this week and just be with them.
If your kids are grown:
1. Stop waiting for them to find the time. Ask specifically. "Breakfast Saturday at 8, my treat."
2. Keep it low pressure. You're rebuilding a habit, not having a summit.
It isn't too late for either one.
I'll pray for his health...yet, pray he is defeated.
And moreso, pray that he will turn he doesn't read the Word and distort it's meaning to fit his own agenda.

I was 34 & recall saying to a mentor,
"I go to church every week, but God still seems so distant."
His reply changed my life.
"Tyler how generous of you that you GIVE GOD one hour a week......
How many hours did you tell me you watched sports, listened to sports radio, & binged Netflix?!
How do expect to grow a relationship, see miracles, & know God's plan for your life if He gets 1/168 hours a week."
I cancelled cable.
I canceled Netflix.
I started streaming multiple church sermons a week, listening only to Christian music, & reading my Bible 365 days a year."
That was 7 years ago.
I can't tell you the insane blessings, deep joy, & clarity God has shown me.
EXCEEDINGLY, ABUNDANTLY- MORE THAN I could have dreamt!!!!
I admit have missed out on what a ton of fictional characters are doing & truthfully don't know my teamโs draft prospects anymore......
But if you say FAITH & God are the most important thing in your life,
Audit that statement & ensure your actions align with it OR DO WHAT I DID & change your priorities.

The one skill growing up that I never realized how much I would utilize on a daily basis has to be geometry. as a real estate investor...I cannot tell you how many times a day i use it.
know your squares...rectangles, and right angle triangles...and you can calculate anything.

Wanting to accomplish something in your life, but need to prove yourself to somebody?
Think of 1 small piece of street cred you may have...and then deploy it effectively.
My wife and I are in the midst of the biggest real estate transaction we have ever contemplated.
Today, I wondered if the Engineers we are working with ever doubt us, then I referenced one of our other projects...it's interesting how they lean in a little more and they even begin to believe in what we are looking to accomplish.
Also, it's not bragging if you have done it. It's simply stating a fact. If you did something...and God blessed you in that way...give Him the glory, and acknowledge the amazing blessing that was accomplished. It all goes towards His kingdom.
If you and I do not believe in ourselves and the projects we are wanting to accomplish...nobody else will!
And...It's Biblical.
For as a man thinks in his heart...so he is.
