For great executives who want to be good dads. Execution systems for programs; shutdown systems for 5:15 pm at home.

Your kid counts the number of bedtimes you miss. Not just physically. Mentally. Don't comment. Put the phone down. Go be with your kids before bedtime. They have 936 Saturdays before they leave your care. Systems Dad always says, "Good mornings start with good nights." Say good night to your precious child, and then be ready for a fun morning when they wake up. - Pancakes - Scrambled eggs - Maybe some donuts - Put it out on a platter and eat with your hands, or make it a sophisticated breakfast. NOTE: Plan this the night before so you know what kind of clean up you're in for. - Get out Chutes and Ladders or whatever game they are currently into - Focus on them. I know you've got a ton of pressure at the office. I get it. I manage my own load, my own team, and two other program teams. The call from Slack is real. Ignore it. Be there.

I am grateful for the community @NCCSpringfield. We pray for each other, we know each other, and we serve each other. I am glad I have them to do life together, to lift me up, and to encourage me. Into a great week, team.

Music overhead at the hall. You know what bass line I’m talking about. Which one is it?

Nieces and sister in law in town. Good time to sport another Bucky hat. Dinner at one of our favorite food halls.

I noticed we had new online purchases showing up directly from the manufacturer. Then I noticed the kinds of ads I've gotten streaming MLB Channel on Roku this morning while doing some housework and building. Hmm...

Forty minutes of finger-pointing on a review call. A deadline slipped four days. Two teams hit a wall, nobody wrote down a decision, and three VPs copied on an email fight. The product was fine. Coordination wasn't. Now I use 3 rules: Decision Log, Dependency Flag, Risk Note.

I was the PM, at my laptop until 8 PM soothing egos. 15 years running delivery on programs, and I watched this happen on high-risk projects. Now you can learn from me. I'm working with @boardyai toward 3 paying clients by Nov 30.

Make church a priority. Plan your weekend around it. Get a good night’s sleep tonight so you can be ready to hear His word. Starts with rest and screens off.
Have you made your plans for this weekend? It is such a great investment in your family, my friends. If you are in the Chattahoochee Valley, between Alabama and Georgia, stop by @chattvllychurch at 10:30 AM EST. Can’t make it? Log on to Facebook or YouTube to @chattvalleychurch at 10:30 AM EST.

Normalize having a game night. My IRL friend Josh hosts a mix of novice and expert gamers each week. It's truly a gift of hospitality. Last night, we took advantage. Brought our neighbors. After a long week, a shared experience was just what The Systems Dad needed.

I’m irrationally optimistic that we can get to 1,000 teammates before the end of the month. Who should I be following? - Dads - Girl dads - Tech nerds - Builders - Productivity geeks - Sports guys Shoot me some names.

You can't make time. Nobody gets more than 24 hours. This week has been crazy. But I'm still blocking out 24 hours on Saturday night until Sunday night. Holding it in place while making other space work. I decide where the hours go before the week decides for me. Rest goes on the calendar first.

Had a call this week with Allyn Miller, a parent coach. I keep building. Pages, offers, frameworks. Her advice was to stop making new stuff and go talk to dads. Fair. Building feels like progress. It's also a good place to hide.

Allyn Miller coaches parents. One idea from our call stuck. Kid behavior is a signal. Correct the behavior and you can miss the need under it. When I violate my own 4:50 Firebreak and bring work in my head, home, my kids can tell. They get a little more antsy.

I have a day job I like. I'm keeping it. She reminded me this week that growth takes a long runway, and most of it nobody sees. So the plan is boring. Show up. Talk to dads. Repeat. I'm here, guys.

Too many leaders spend their mornings picking work instead of doing it. Opening your inbox first thing turns your morning over to other people's chaos. I put a daily block on my calendar from 4:15 to 4:40 PM. I call it Plan Tomorrow, Today. At 4:15, I sit down as the Boss. I write tomorrow's marching orders. No debate. At 8:00 AM, I clock in as the Employee. The Employee doesn't open Slack/Teams or negotiate priorities. He works the list before touching a single incoming message.

I just called my momma and she confirmed. That was the top song of the year. No notes.

Yes. There was no Thriller. Only Swingin'. It's in my baby book as the top song of the year.
