Speaker Jacob Oboth has met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Samvidhan Sadan, New Delhi, as the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum opened this morning.
PM Modi greeted Speakers and heads of delegations from BRICS member and partner countries before the opening ceremony. Uganda attends as a BRICS partner country.
Under a canopy of floral drapes in the Parliament courtyard, Speaker Oboth, wearing a ceremonial stole like many delegates, shared a warm handshake and conversation with the PM.
The meeting follows the welcome the Ugandan delegation received on arrival from Lok Sabha Speaker and Forum Chair Shri Om Birla.

Earlier today, I attended the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) Executive meeting with the Consultant working on the UWOPA Strategic Plan 2026-2031.
The strategic plan is expected to set a clear roadmap for UWOPA's interventions in advancing women's rights, economic empowerment, and participation in leadership and decision-making.
The engagement with the consultant marks a crucial step in shaping a more focused and impactful agenda.

Losing a mother leaves a pain words cannot express and a void no one can fill. Her love, sacrifices and memories will forever remain engraved in our hearts.
Though she is gone, her legacy will live on.

Speaker @ObothOboth and Uganda’s parliamentary delegation to the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum have met their Indian counterparts, led by Lok Sabha Speaker and Forum Chair Shri Om Birla. The hosts put on a Bhangra performance, with dancers in blue and yellow and dhol drummers, and several of our MPs joined in. The delegation comprises the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi, Hon Betty Nakisita Mpongo (Namutumba), Hon Sowedi Ismail Mulemya (Busia Municipality) and Hon Annet Katusiime Mugisha (Bushenyi). They were joined by Uganda’s High Commissioner to India, Prof Joyce Kikafunda. Government and Opposition are travelling together on Uganda’s business.
