Investigations have exposed alleged links between narcotics trafficking, cross-border handlers, criminal intermediaries, weapons supplies and terror financing. ▪︎▪︎》THE FACTS THAT CANNOT BE IGNORED: ▪️ 292 drones recovered/seized: The Government of India reported that 292 drones/UAVs were seized or recovered along the India–Pakistan border during 2025. Not every drone was necessarily linked to narcotics, but the figure underlines the growing security challenge posed by unmanned aerial activity. ▪️ 17 KG OF HEROIN ONE NARCO-TERROR CASE: In a case investigated by the NIA, an initial vehicle search led to the recovery of approximately ₹2 crore in cash and 2 kg of heroin. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of another 15 kg of heroin and ₹1.15 crore. By January 2025, 16 accused had been chargesheeted. The NIA alleged that the network generated funds for terrorist activities and involved operatives associated with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. ▪️ DRONES, DRUGS & WEAPONS OCTOBER 2026: In a separate case reported on 7 October, police arrested four people over an alleged cross-border narco-terror module with links to Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti. Police reported recovering a pistol, magazines, ammunition, approximately 500 grams each of heroin and opium, and alleged drone-delivered consignments of weapons and narcotics. The investigation was ongoing. ▪️ THE GOVERNMENT'S ASSESSMENT: In a written parliamentary reply, the Ministry of Home Affairs explicitly stated that foreign-based elements were involved in facilitating narco-terrorism by pushing narcotics across the border to generate funds for terrorist activities in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. SO, WHAT IS CHANGING? The alleged ecosystem is becoming more complex: narcotics can generate illicit revenue; couriers and criminal intermediaries can move consignments; drones can complicate border surveillance; and financial networks can potentially channel proceeds towards terrorist activity. The danger is not limited to a bag of heroin being intercepted. It lies in the possibility that the same criminal supply chain can support multiple forms of organised crime and violence. ▪︎▪︎▪︎》THE REALITY CHECK: Those who treat drug trafficking as merely a law-and-order issue are missing the bigger security picture. And those who exploit Kashmir's geography for narcotics and terror financing must understand that every link in the chain from suppliers and couriers to financiers and handlers needs to be investigated. 🚨 GUREZ EXPOSED | CABINET RESHUFFLES, POLITICAL POWER GAMES BUT WHERE IS THE GOVERNANCE? 🎭 Ministers get portfolios. Political equations get rewritten. Cabinet reshuffles dominate headlines. Meanwhile, in remote Gurez, young people have had to risk their health in a five-day hunger strike to demand what should never have been negotiable: BASIC HEALTHCARE. Let that sink in. 📊 THE REALITY ON THE GROUND: ▪️ Permanent gynaecologist and radiologist ▪️ Functional operation theatre and blood facilities ▪️ 4×4 ambulances for Gurez, Tulail and Bagtore ▪️ Accountability following the death of a pregnant woman and her baby on October 14, 2026. These were among the demands raised by residents of Gurez, where winter isolation makes emergency medical care a matter of life and death. The five-day strike ended after the administration deployed gynaecologists and made the operation theatre functional, but the demand for a radiologist remained. And here is the uncomfortable question for J&K’s political establishment: How many cabinet reshuffles does it take to deliver a functioning healthcare system to a remote valley? The irony is staggering. Political arithmetic gets immediate attention, but people in a border region have to endure freezing temperatures and hunger just to make their basic needs impossible to ignore. Would the response have been different if this protest had unfolded in Srinagar? Would political leaders have rushed to the cameras, issued statements and competed to demonstrate solidarity? Gurez deserves that same urgency, whether the cameras are present or not. This is not merely about one hospital. It is about the people of Tulail, Bagtore, Dawar and other remote areas who face difficult terrain, winter road closures and long journeys when specialist care is unavailable. Representation is not a five-year photo opportunity. Governance is not the reshuffling of ministerial chairs. And healthcare is not a favour to be granted after a hunger strike. The question is not whether another minister has been inducted. It is whether a pregnant woman can reach a properly equipped hospital in time, whether an ambulance can navigate winter conditions, and whether a patient can receive emergency treatment without depending on luck. The youth of Gurez should not have to choose between enduring hunger and demanding healthcare. Cabinet reshuffles may change who occupies the chair. Only accountable governance can change what happens to the people sitting outside the hospital. Gurez deserves more than promises.
