You know how we often try to define what 'funk' is? Well, I was listening to this show in the car today, and this is the best description I've ever heard. Bootsy hits the nail on the head when he says "funk is...making something out of nothing".
It's why funk resonates with us so much...particularly black folk. This is what we do...whether its food, music, whatever, we have a marvelous propensity to create something from nothing. Our culture will forever be a testament to this.

One of the earliest found recordings of Prince and Grand Central band from an actual studio. This track starts with a jazzy piano intro with sweeping percussion and P falsetto.

Estate announced a new @prince LP, Timeless, compilation of unreleased tunes out Aug. 28. Reaction has focused on randomness of 10 songs, spanning 1977 to '16, but we won’t know the conceit of the project till we read liner notes or statement from the estate, if those happen.
