The moment I saw @BajpayeeManoj's face on Netflix, I knew I had to watch the movie. Gajab Raat, what a performance by Manoj Bajpayee and a very engaging thriller. His co-actors playing the CBI and NIA characters also stand out.

May such stories never cease to amaze. Exactly one year ago Maoist Commander Mallojula Venugopal, who carried a bounty of 6 crore, surrendered in Maharashtra, with 60 other cadre Today, he works on Gram Sabhas, tribal and forest rights with Gondwana University. ‘He admits the irony of tackling some of the same issues through legal means that the maoists once rallied against’ 👌

You’ve heard a lot about Umar Khalid through the media. But amid the media witch-hunt against him, there has been very little space for him to speak for himself, especially since he’s spent the last six years in jail. So I want to tell you a little about my friend Umar, in his own words, as shared with his family and friends.

“You are not equal to me.” That's what journalist Ryan Thomas says a police officer told him after he was detained while documenting police action against protesters. Thomas alleges that despite identifying himself as a journalist and maintaining his distance, officers surrounded him, forced him into a bus, attempted to damage his camera and repeatedly demanded that he delete his footage. He further claims he was punched, slapped and threatened when he refused. Thomas describes what happened and raises serious questions about press freedom and police accountability. INTERESTING: when Team Anna hit the streets in 2011 (with the RSS also providing support), few called the protests ‘anarchic’. Now when Rahul Gandhi and the opposition do it, the same forces who hailed the Anna Andolan , now use the word ‘anarchy’ routinely. Then the BJP was in opposition and Cong in power, now roles reversed. Guess where you stand in Indian politics depends on where you sit, no?! 🙏

It is this composed and drama-less analysis of facts that we are truly missing.
How the SIR deletions affect the Bengal election results? Were certain categories of voters targeted and if so, what were the consequences? Does the analysis of Bengal elections suggest any lessons for the forthcoming state elections? Prannoy Roy (@PrannoyRoy7749) uses data on SIR deletions and swings in votes to answer these and other questions about the impact of SIR on the Bengal elections. Makes a lot of sense!
Market in "Grief & Denial" Mode: What Should You Do (a) RBI after 8 yrs: “Calibrated tightening" (b) Forget the macros: Liquidity drove the boom; liquidity will bring the bust (c) SIPs still in denial; giving chance to exit partially. Too late once SIPs slow down. Winter Is Coming: Prepare Wisely a. Yesterday, after 4 years of aggressive liquidity & growth push, RBI raised the repo rate by 0.25%. That is just a trailer. By 4-2 vote, RBI changed it stance from “neutral” to “calibrated tightening” after 8 yrs. b. Tightening means more rate hikes are coming. Loans get expensive. Real estate, infrastructure, and businesses get hurt due to higher credit costs. c. FD rates will eventually rise to 7.5%. It means in the midst of falling rupee and weak demand, equities will have to work that much harder to attract domestic liquidity. d. Govt has backed financial markets and Ambani-Adani-Tatas since 2014. Now the same govt will abandon them. Govt has to fight inflation, no matter what. Inflation brings people to the streets. e. ₹ at All-Time Low: Rupee is your friend only as long as it stays below ₹100 mark. Once that barrier is crossed, the psychological and political protection is gone. Markets will address this risk if ₹ breaches 98 or 99. f. Domestic Demand: Data shows Indian airline passenger traffic has been flat for last 15 months. Zero growth. This is urban middle class metric. For the rural class, food & fuel inflation is tightening the noose around their necks. Equity vs. FD: What is Better? Here is the math: Analyst Nifty EPS Consensus (determined by JM Financial) for FY27 is: Nifty EPS @ ₹1,235 This means: In FY27, Nifty 50 companies will collectively earn ₹1,235 of profit for every Nifty index unit. Nifty EPS: ₹1,235 Nifty closing today: 22,231 Forward P/E: 22,231 ÷ 1,235 = 18x Earnings Yield: E/P (Opp. of PE) = 1,235 ÷ 22,231 = 5.6% At present, a 10-yr govt bond pays 7.3% risk-free. With RBI rate hikes coming, this will likely go up to 8.3% in a few months. Assuming bond yield stays at 7.3%, and does not rise, still Nifty earnings must grow by 31% to bridge the gap between 5.6% (Current Nifty Yield) and 7.3% (Current Bond Yield). Bank of America (BofA) has estimated FY27 EPS growth @ 9%. At this EPS growth rate, it will take 3.2 years for Indian equities to come at par with risk-free govt bond yield (if no PE de-rating happens.) In other words, going by this calculation: For the next 3.2 years, risk-free govt bonds will give better returns than Nifty 50. NOTE: This is mathematics with many assumptions, just to give a perspective. In reality, equity markets are driven by emotions and liquidity, not math. Strategy: Grief & Denial a. Lumpsum MF and individual stock investors are already in grief. But SIP investors are still in denial. They are buying every day, unaffected by the ongoing carnage. b. The real risk is: What happens if SIP investors become impatient once FD rates rise? MTF book is already tripled in last 3 years. There is unbelievable leverage in the market. c. To reduce your risk exposure: 1. Don’t put fresh money into equities until corporate earnings show a dramatic improvement. 2. Take out some money from equities while you can. If your loss is just 10% or 15% in some trade, cut the loss and get out. 3. Diversify into fixed income and gold. 4. Build a strong emergency fund, and never use it for equities. 5. Know your risk capacity, and don’t let FOMO rob you of your mental peace. @arabicatrader

We talk about ease of doing business in India and compare it with China, there’s one big difference I’ve noticed: In India, no one wants to feel accountable. Let me share my experience with one of India’s biggest shipping companies, Delhivery. I’m a co-founder of an electrolyte brand. We sent two packages worth almost ₹1lakh to Ladakh for the Ladakh Marathon because we wanted to sell them at the event. They failed to deliver them and shipped them back to us. For the next 40–45 days, there was no update on where the packages were. We kept following up, but nobody gave us a clear answer. After 45 days, they told us the packages were lost and simply closed the case. We were shocked by the lack of accountability. No explanation, no apology, no guilt. Just, “It’s lost.” And when we asked why, how it happened, or what the next step was, nobody had an answer. Delhivery team doesn’t answer calls. We tried reaching out to different people, and most of them either said, “It’s not my department,” or cut the call. Our team got stuck in an endless loop. Shipping aggregator says to contact the shipper. Shipper says to contact someone else. Delhivery team doesn’t answer. And the biggest loser is the entrepreneur who is willing to do business. I’ve dealt with Chinese suppliers and logistics companies before, and the difference in accountability and service is very noticeable. They are desperate to do business with you. They take ownership, respond quickly, and try to solve the problem. That’s what ease of doing business should feel like, not this, definitely!

IISc scientists removed a critical part of a HUMAN CELL ! Then they used BLUE LIGHT to make it work again. Every time a cell divides, it has to perform an extraordinarily precise operation. It copies its chromosomes. Then microscopic structures called spindles help pull those chromosomes apart so each new cell gets the right genetic material. A structure called the centrosome normally helps organise this process. So IISc researchers did something crazy. They engineered human cells...and then deliberately REMOVED their centrosomes. As expected, spindle formation became defective. Then the scientists switched on a BLUE LIGHT. 🔵 And something remarkable happened. 🧵

More than hawkers, uneven, broken and missing slabs, along with footpath riders riding on pavements, are the major obstacles for pedestrians. Wonder why none of the officials spotted this during the recent footpath reclamation drive 👇
The footpaths of 12th Main, Indiranagar are a mess. - Piles of rubble rivalling conflict zones - Trees doubling as dustbins - Missing/broken slabs - Inexplicable craters Billions in venture capital have been deployed in this part of town. The footpaths could use some love too.

Gandhi’s great challenge to independent India was never “follow me.” It was: think for yourself. In today's modern age of political polarisation, instant opinions and viral outrage, what does Gandhi mean to India? Perhaps, more than ever, it means this: never surrender your political conscience to any party, ideology, crowd, influencer or algorithm. Happy Gandhi Jayanti!
