Whoo boy. Someone has yet to discover Jesus. 🙈
Paul dies and finally meets Jesus in the afterlife.
Paul: I always assumed I'd understand everything once I got here.
Jesus: You will. It's going to be a long afternoon.
Paul: I'm so happy to meet you, Jesus! I led so many people to you.
Jesus: (scratches head) Something must have gotten lost in translation. The Way is narrow and few find it. What exactly did you teach them?
Paul: Well… that you were an atoning sacrifice and all they had to do was believe in you to be saved.
Jesus: (sighs) I called the priests murderers when I stormed the Temple for a reason. Since you're dead now, I'll just tell you: those Levitical blood‑sacrifice passages came from Ugaritic texts. Jeremiah warned you many times — that's why I quoted him when I cleansed the Temple and freed the animals. It’s all Baal.
Paul: (pause) All blood sacrifice?
Jesus: All of it. And why did you teach them 'belief in me'? I said follow me, which means doing, not believing. Didn't you emphasize my ethical treatment of others?
Paul: You mean telling women to be subject to their husbands, shun gay people, and ignore everyone who disagrees with their religious view?
Jesus: Mindboggling. How did you get that from the Golden Rule? Well… you did get my name out there, I'll give you that. And I still love and forgive you.
Paul: I was shipwrecked three times, beaten with rods, and stoned. I think that earns me a little creative license.
Jesus: Yeah…traditionally that’s viewed as God’s disfavor, but hey, to each their own. But did you at least teach them the Good News?
Paul: You mean justification by faith apart from works, inherited sin, universal human depravity, and abolishing the Law?
Jesus: (flabbergasted) Son, none of that came from my teachings. Who were you listening to?
Paul: I'd like to remind you I was caught up to the third heaven and had visions of you. I mentioned it. Several times. In writing.
Jesus: Of who? I never knew you. Didn't you study under my brother, James the Just? I put him in charge of the Nazarenes before I left because he was the wisest and most righteous, and taught what I taught.
Paul: Oh… that explains why everyone was listening to him.
Jesus: (smacks head)

The engine that drives the Great Commission is Jesus' love for all peoples. When we fail to go across the street and across the oceans, we fail to see people how Gods sees them.

An excellent article from @AndrewTWalker on the "largely ineffectual" nature of Christian Nationalism. No scenario exists in which their speculative ideas are formally adopted in America. My take: This is why they fight for control of certain Christian organizations rather than taking on the U.S. government. They won't ever replace the president with a Caesar, but they can do a lot of damage to seminaries and denominations. They can't win by convincing the public at large. Their ideas are too kooky (and dangerous). For this reason, they look to leech off existing groups (e.g., the SBC) with money and assets rather than starting their own institutions. wng.org/opinions/michael-sco…

The phrase "submit to your elders" has to come to function like a mantra in some Reformed churches in the same way "touch not mine anointed" functions like a mantra in Charismatic churches.

"Your call may be recorded to ensure high-quality service." I believe we've recorded quite a few customer service calls over the years. Can we get the high-quality service now? When does that start?

It’s hilarious to me that I had the audacity to say I was tired or stressed before having kids

We opted out. Here to testify that my kids missed no growth opportunity, gained 1000’s of hours together as a family (many of them in church), and are all wonderful contributing adults. The clear cost is the💰, but the killer cost is the ⏰. We were unwilling to part with either.
‘Travel sports,’ a term that has come to encompass all sorts of private teams, leagues, and clubs, used to be for the truly exceptional young athlete. Now, they’re for anyone willing to pay — an expensive, exhausting commitment that has become popular not necessarily because millions of parents want them for their children but because it can feel like there’s no other choice. Rec programs are underfunded and struggle to compete with for-profit leagues for prime field, rink, and court times. And the level of play is diluted, often very early, as travel teams are incentivized to enroll children at young ages.
Around 5 million children in the U.S. now compete on travel teams. Parents find themselves trapped. They know the benefits of sports and want that for their children, yet giving it to them often means buying into a sports ecosystem that’s inherently flawed. As the pay-to-play model increasingly takes hold, so does the idea that kids should start competing at younger and younger ages, risking their sense of self along with their shoulders and ACLs.
“I never want my kids to look back and say I didn’t do everything I could to help them live their dreams,” a mother of three soccer players said. She’s hired professional photographers to take action shots for her 12- and 13-year-olds’ Instagram accounts — the platform has become a recruiting tool — and they’ve both asked her to pay for personal trainers.
“I think the word isn’t ‘specialize’; you are ‘professionalizing’ your kid early. You are exposing them to everything professionals have to deal with — I’m talking injury, time, schedule, everything,” said John Van Benschoten, a former MLB player and travel-baseball coach.
It makes one ask: All this for what? And for whom? Read Caitlin Moscatello’s cover story on how travel leagues have made youth sports more expensive, hypercompetitive, and all-consuming — and the investors who are making a killing: nymag.visitlink.me/1-gbZQ

It bears repeating:
There are numerous New Testament mandates which require that our gatherings as the church be participatory, with ministry one to another out of the diverse gifts God distributes among us.
Unfortunately, however, what we tend to have these days are “mono-churches” that are centered around the monopolizing monologue preaching by the “one” …
Or centered around one particular gift, vision or ministry emphasis.
Instead of mono-churches, here are just some of the New Testament’s many commands about how we are to gather and function together as the multi-part, multi-functional, multi-gifted Body of Christ …
For the mutual edification and building up of each other by one another.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Th. 5:11
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Pet. 4:10
“What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.” 1 Cor. 14:26
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom …” Col. 3:16
“I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.” Rom. 15:14
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food …” Heb. 5:12
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Heb. 10:24-25
“If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?” 1 Cor. 12:17
Leaders in the church do not have a monopoly on ministry, but instead are “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ …” Eph. 4:12
Finally, we are not to be the church based on “human cunning… Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” Eph. 4:14-16
So in conclusion:
The New Testament commands that we gather for ministry by one another for the mutual building up of each other …
Not by or about the “one.”
Big difference!
