So AEI has put out a volume on a conservative approach to family policy, and the early childhood education chapter is... a doozy. Consider this assertion that early childhood programs are not for "child development." News to the past 50+ years of early childhood researchers!
Replying to @swinshi
In his chapter, Finn sensibly argues that early childhood programs should be focused on school readiness and targeted to kids who aren't going to be ready for school absent intervention. Early childhood programs are not for child care, and they are not for "child development".

Successful advocacy can mean avoiding deep cuts or eliminating vital programs in lean budget times. Early childhood advocates in #WashingtonDC and Louisiana leveraged grassroots voices this year to defend #childcare investments ⁦⁦@DCEducare⁩ newamerica.org/education-pol…

When you put public funding into child care, good things happen for kids, parents, providers & entire communities. "Our programs are expanding, increasing compensation for our staff, and in some instances, offering health insurance & other employee benefits for the first time."
As federal funding for child care ran out last year, dozens of VT program owners sounded the alarm on the dire state of our local child care system. After Act 76's passage, these program directors have a new outlook. Read what 15 directors have to say a year later ⬇️

Like I said before, the nation is watching if @MayorBowser @councilofdc will save the Pay Equity Fund or let early childhood educators down.
NEW: I'm in @FastCompany today with @_ninaelizabeth_, arguing that Mayor Bowser's proposed cuts to D.C. child care funding are not only foolhardy, they show the need to leverage policy mechanisms that make such public funding permanent and protected. fastcompany.com/91090340/was…

.@MayorBowser's budget threatens to eliminate DC's Pay Equity Fund for early childhood educators, a national model for transforming child care in the country. DC is watching. The country is watching.

Parenting seems hard enough w/o subjecting oneself to false binary choices. Policymakers can give all parents the freedom to raise their children in a fulfilling way for moms, dads, and kiddos by investing in living wage, paid leave, child care, and more.
"Are we all, 69 percent of the nation’s mothers, 'letting someone else raise our kids'?" Haley Swenson of @BetterLifeLab at @newamerica asks hard questions in this new essay: bit.ly/3SAlkOk @amprog @19thnews

Folks, online Pre-K is not a thing! It runs counter to everything we know about child development! Please just stop. #msleg
I think we all agree that expanding pre-K access to every Mississippi child is important. But should we consider doing this with virtual pre-K as HB 254 suggests?
