Actually I quite like it that the former head of the Special Forces looks like he was acquitted of involvement in the Hatton Garden robbery by a rather questionable 10-2 majority verdict.
One of the greatest officers ever to serve in the @BritishArmy. His approach to #leadership was unorthodox but highly successful. The stories about him are the stuff of legend. Interview courtesy of @Telegraph

As I said- a compliment never falls on stoney ground. We all like a compliment. I will do so to a well dressed female. The smile it raises makes my day 💖
As I walked the dogs this morning a man in his forties stopped me , shook my hand, “Mr Essex thank you for your music” it kind of made my day.

I asked Chatgpt to write a description of this Fly Agaric in the style of Brian Sewell: 'A specimen of such vulgar flamboyance that one might mistake it for a Turner Prize submission. Nature is no less susceptible than the contemporary art world to the occasional lapse in taste.'

Bateau-atelier is one of my fav of his & of any self portrait bc its such a beautiful composition, in tht what is telling u most about him is not his physical appearance its the fact he has invented a floating studio so he can paint the river

This. Always feel for Scarlett and his Heavies: a remarkable feat of arms overshadowed by the utter balls up that happened later that day.
1/ Today is 25 October, the anniversary of Balaclava. Everyone knows the Charge of the Light Brigade. Hardly anyone knows that an hour earlier, on the same field, British cavalry made one of the most successful charges of the century. This is the Heavy Brigade. 🧵

That an act of worship doesn’t pray for the Head of State is highly suspect
That the Anglican service of Evensong still asks God to save the King is absurd.

A very brave man. A Sunday School teacher who didn't want to take life and instead devoted himself to saving it.
In 1918 during the First World War, British stretcher bearer William Coltman carried three wounded comrades to safety on his back under fire. Remember him for the men he refused to leave behind.

You're looking at survivors of Britain's 'Light Brigade' photographed by Roger Fenton shortly after their ill-fated charge at the Battle of Balaclava. It happened on this day in 1854.

My personal fave is “We got it from our charcuterie” “Your butcher? “Ooh do you think so? Must be the way I’ve had me hair done”

Organ went awry during Amazing Grace this morning so we sang it unaccompanied. So powerful that the Vicar wondered whether we had the Holy Spirit to thank for the organ problem!

Thing is, the RNLI helps people even if they are putting themselves in danger. You may say that's what people crossing the Channel in small boats do. But it's also what people like this do, or drunks who go jetskiing. RNLI doesn't care: keeps them safe anyway. Quite right too.
Polzeath beach in Cornwall today. Raging seas in the aftermath of a storm. The only people on the beach were a stupid couple in wetsuits and their children. They were planning on doing some body boarding. Another man saw them and walked up to the Dad to tell him it wasn't safe to enter the water. Apparently the Dad then punched the man who then left the beach. Shortly afterwards the family were told to leave the beach by an RNLI patrol. I can GUARANTEE this family were "down from London" for the half term holiday. Idiots.

Visited this once. Unforgettable and wonderful.
Some 10 meters below the streets of modern Istanbul is the enormous Basilica Cistern, built in the 6th century AD to supply the city of Constantinople with water in time of siege. Cleared of debris and repaired it opened to tourists as a museum in 1987.

Whenever you hear all this macho warrior bullshit, remember that a modest, charitable Kiwi and a vegetarian spiritualist who believed in fairies were instrumental in winning the Battle of Britain.

I'm a little hazy about the reason for this. I'd look it up - I think I saw something about it in a magazine- but I'm too lazy ( and I'm quite brazen about my laziness). No doubt there's a simple explanation, which Occam's Razor would say we should seize upon.
Serious question for people in commonwealth counties the use British-based English spelling: Why even have the letter z if y’all won’t use it if the word doesn’t start with z? (It’s not a serious question, I’m just curious)
