Researchers at MSK continue to build upon early ideas in cancer research, breaking new ground and driving the field now known as "#immunotherapy" forward.
Today, one specific type of immunotherapy —therapeutic #cancervaccines — has taken center stage. Unlike traditional vaccines, which prevent disease, a cancer vaccine would actually treat the disease.
The concept is audacious. It is challenging. And it is also achievable, thanks to new technology and more support for researchers in the lab and the clinic.

Congrats @NancyZh60672287 and @KSusztak for this amazing work showing a path toward more effective and insightful single cell diagnosis and discovery from patient samples!
Hey we are in the post-atlasing era — time for single cell research to translate into the clinic! How? Try CellSpectra. See this thread by the amazing @KSusztak:
Congrats, Chris and team! A really fascinating auto regulatory circuit. A great example of how unraveling the complexities of unexpected modulatory pathways could be the key to better immunotherapies.
🚨Today, in @NatureCancer, we show that CAR-T cells and CAR-NK cells contain the seeds of their own self-destruction. Disruption of a FAS-L/FAS circuit enhances CAR potency against liquid and solid cancers. rdcu.be/exjEy @MSKCancerCenter @parkerici @MSK_DeptOfMed
Congrats Aaron and team! The biological implications and the translational insight uncovered is fascinating. Discovery that some patients might naturally synthesize biologics that may improve immunotherapy, including blocking antibodies to type I IFN? Wow 🤯
T cells do the heavy lifting when it comes to the anti-tumor action of checkpoint immunotherapy. But do antibodies play a role too?
That’s the question @yile_dai looked to answer in his thesis work, out today in @Nature! 🧵below

This study describes one of the most amazing IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) I have ever learned about!! Congrats @megclarks, Jorge Henao Mejia, and team! Your work is amazing. Thanks also to @TheMarkFdn for supporting this project as part of the Mark Foundation Center at Penn.
Thrilled to share our paper on how mitochondrial complex IV remodeling can modulate TAM functions and promote anti-tumor immunity! with @ksimeono, @MFMich1, @Notorious_MHC, @rakez_krish, @delafuentelab, @andyjminn, @JHMLab and those not on X! Out now in @ImmunityCP 🎉

When the hardest cancers go unsolved, @xrtcell, MD (@StanfordMed), gets to work. The PICI Investigator is a recipient of the 2025 CRI Lloyd J. Old STAR Award from @CancerResearch—recognizing investigators who take on cancer’s toughest questions.
Dr. Kalbasi’s lab is reshaping cell therapy by engineering T cells with synthetic cytokine receptors, delivering powerful, targeted signals without toxic conditioning chemo (@Nature).
Now leading a pan-California IL-13Rα2 CAR-T trial for melanoma and rare solid tumors, Dr. Kalbasi is translating science into new hope for patients who need it most.
PICI is proud to support boundary-breaking research.

We previously showed that IFNg is required for CAR-T efficacy in solid tumors, but is it always good? Here, we show that IFNg limits CD28 CAR-T cells and that protection from this signal drives greater antitumor activity and durability. Enjoy!

Powerful piece on the dominance of NIH-funded science and its role in drug discovery. Cutting the NIH budget puts all the U.S. has built at risk. We urge

Looking fwd, I am honored for this privilege of returning to MSK, working w immense talent to advance their mission of ending cancer. Looking back, I am indebted to Penn, all my colleagues, and to the organizations supporting the research of all who tirelessly share this mission.
We're excited to share that Dr. Andy Minn will return to MSK as the inaugural Chair of MSK’s new Immuno-Oncology Program in August.
This is a full-circle moment for Dr. Minn, a renowned physician-scientist, who completed his postdoctoral training with Dr. Joan Massagué, Director of the Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI), and his residency in the Department of Radiation Oncology, both at MSK, in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
