𝟴-𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥-𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗚𝗜𝗥𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗘𝗗, 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗚𝗠 Police officers from Dandora Police Station in Nairobi have arrested a 32-year-old woman after she was allegedly caught by neighbours subjecting her 8-year-old daughter to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) using a surgical blade. The incident occurred at Dandora Phase 2 Estate after neighbours raised the alarm and confronted the suspect, identified as Frolence Ngendo Nyambura, as she allegedly carried out the act on the minor. Police officers, accompanied by the Sub-County Children Officer, swiftly responded to the scene and confirmed the incident. The suspect, who had been restrained by members of the public, was handed over to the police. The traumatised minor, who had already undergone the mutilation, was immediately rescued and rushed to Dandora Phase 3 Health Centre, where she received medical attention and was later discharged in stable condition. She was subsequently placed in a safe home to facilitate her recovery and ensure her continued protection. The suspect is being held at Dandora Police Station and is set to face charges of performing FGM contrary to Section 19(1) of the Prohibition of FGM Act, 2011, and cruelty to a child contrary to Section 14 of the Children Act, among other charges. The National Police Service (NPS) remains committed in protecting children from all forms of abuse and bringing perpetrators of FGM to justice. Through intelligence-led investigations, close collaboration with child-protection stakeholders and communities, the Service will continue to confront this harmful practice and safeguard every child’s right to grow up safe, protected and free from violence. #FichuaKwaDCI. Peace must not be something we remember after violence has happened. As Kenya moves towards the 2027 General Elections, the warning signs of political violence, intimidation and goonism demand action now. Peace means protecting every Kenyan’s right to participate, assemble, campaign, speak and vote without fear or violence. On this International Day of Peace, let us invest in prevention, accountability and a culture of political competition based on ideas, not intimidation. Invest in Peace For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day. @IEBCKenya @NPSOfficial_KE @NCIC_Kenya @Kenyajudiciary #InternationalDayOfPeace #InvestInPeace #EndGoonism

Eight Utumishi Girls students denied bail following DPP’s objection. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a significant ruling in the case involving eight minors charged with the murder of 16 students of Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County. The Kibera High Court today upheld the prosecution’s objection to the release of the eight minors on bond, finding that the DPP had established compelling reasons to warrant their continued detention pending the hearing and determination of the case. Justice Diana Kavedza ruled that the minors are facing 16 counts of murder arising from the tragic fire at the school and that their release would expose them to potential harm. The DPP charged the eight minors with 16 counts of murder following the deaths of the 16 students in the fire that occurred on the night of 27th and 28th May 2026. The prosecution informed the court that the eight minors allegedly acted jointly in causing the deaths of the students. In opposing their release on bond, the DPP argued that continued detention was necessary to preserve the integrity of the trial and ensure the proper administration of justice. After considering the prosecution’s submissions and the circumstances of the case, Justice Kavedza directed that the eight minors be remanded at Kamae Borstal Institution pending the hearing and determination of the matter. The court further directed that each minor be held in an individual cubicle equipped with a bed. The prosecution team comprises Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda, Senior Assistant Directors of Public Prosecutions Gikui Gichuhi and Maryanne Mwangi, together with Linda Ndambiri, Paul Ochieng and Peris Maina.

The economy will never grow because the political class is obsessed with civil service jobs. Since 1963, civil service employment has been the cake to fight for, distracting us from the bigger economic question of political sovereignty and ability to earn a living from our work. In 1963, Kenya's economy was broken, and the only route to socio-economic mobility was civil service employment. Even when kina Jomo were screaming about "Rudini shambani," and boasting that they were farmers, the hundreds of thousands of acres they farmed came from the fact that they were in government. In other words, even to be an entrepreneur, your only source of capital is the civil service or government tenders. This is why politicians and civil servants are hostile to manufacturing. It's because industrialization means people making things and being employed by a sector different from the state. This is why the vibanda of small scale entrepreneurs are routinely burned down and demolished. The civil service and political class have determined that they are the only economic activity in town, and the rest of Kenyans have to be obsessed with joining them. So while I should worry about this hate speech, I also know that singing about civil service jobs is political mediocrity and escapism. It's no different from blaming Burundians for selling mandazi when small scale traders resist high taxation. At the end of the day, every hate speech in Kenya is about politicians avoiding one thing. THE ECONOMY. #MaishaKazini

Persons with disabilities must not be included only in speeches, ceremonies and token appointments. Article 54 of the Constitution guarantees dignity, accessible public spaces, transport, information, education and communication. It also directs the State towards at least 5% representation of persons with disabilities in elective and appointive public bodies. Inclusion is therefore a constitutional duty and not charity. Every Ministry, Department, State Corporation and County Government should have a funded disability-inclusion plan, disability focal persons with real authority, accessible service-delivery standards and annual public reports on compliance. A public building that cannot be entered, a website that cannot be used, a hospital without accessible communication or a public notice without sign-language interpretation is a denial of equal citizenship. The law recognises that accessibility must extend to public buildings, including shops, offices, entrances, exits, parking and footpaths. We must also have a serious national and county conversation on dignified enterprise spaces for persons with disabilities. Counties should designate safe, accessible and well-serviced market stalls, trading bays, workspaces and incubation hubs for entrepreneurs with disabilities and not isolate them in hidden corners or treat permits as favours. These spaces must have step-free access, accessible sanitation, adequate lighting, affordable licences, secure tenure, accessible transport links and digital-market support. Economic inclusion is impossible where a person is given a business grant but denied a place from which to trade with dignity. Kenya’s current disability-inclusion framework expressly identifies economic empowerment and access to facilities and services as main priorities. The National Council for Persons with Disabilities and the National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities must be managed with radical transparency. We should be able to see, county by county, what was allocated, who benefited, what devices, training, livelihoods, enterprise spaces or accessibility works were delivered and whether beneficiaries confirm the support reached them. The reform agenda must move from welfare to rights, from centralised discretion to community-led accountability and from consultation to power. Ring-fenced funding, participatory budgeting, open data that protects privacy, enforceable accessibility deadlines and independent social audits would make inclusion real. Nothing about persons with disabilities should be decided without persons with disabilities.

The influence of foreign actors on Kenya’s climate policies has unfolded a complex interplay between global engagements and local imperatives. While international collaboration and aid have offered crucial assistance, they have also prompted concerns regarding national sovereignty and the alignment of agendas. For Kenya to forge sustainable climate strategies, it is crucial to navigate these dynamics, ensuring that external contributions complement rather than dictate its environmental objectives. High Court Declares Community Groups Registration Act Unconstitutional for Lack of Adequate Public Participation: Justice Mugambi has allowed our Petition challenging the constitutionality of the Community Groups Registration Act, finding that the Act was enacted without meaningful, effective and adequate public participation. The Court found that Parliament only received and considered feedback from State actors and therefore failed to meet the constitutional threshold for public participation in the legislative process. Orders made by the Court: 1. Declaration of unconstitutionality: The Court declared the Community Groups Registration Act unconstitutional for having been enacted without sufficient and adequate public participation. 2. Six-month suspension: The declaration of invalidity has been suspended for six months to give Parliament an opportunity to rectify the constitutional defect. 3. Effective date: If Parliament fails to remedy the defect within the six-month period, the declaration of unconstitutionality will take effect at midnight on 10 February 2027. .@MathareSJustice .@NoraMbagathi .@joshuamalidzo
