Whether you’re a PM or not, gaining the ability to hold different perspectives is a critical life skill. Learn to seek out different experiences and ways of solving for the same base needs (food, transport, housing, community, validation, etc.) that make us human.

It’s been ~1 week since @shreyas course on PM career. While $$$$, it includes effective approaches & active cohort with similar goals. It’s not for everyone in PM.

Q: How do I get started as a developer building on top of the API? What should I know?
A: Keep in mind while building (especially startups), how to build a differentiated experience. Reality is everyone has access to the models, so how is what you're doing different?

Q: What use cases have been unlocked with this new paradigm?
A: The focus on human conversation makes it useful in a lot of contexts:
* email
* notes
* repetitive writing tasks
* focus on creative tasks
Basic fact is conversational layer is super-intuitive. It's the UI for life.

Q: Is @OpenAI building anything Open Source?
A: Can't talk about future, but we will be opening more things.
Very excited about whisper - open source transcription model. Super robust and even works with accents.
Also: CLIP, openai-cookbook, gpt-discord-bot

Extracting value from LLMs is much more a product / interface question than a tech question. You have to find tasks where LLMs are applicable, and find a user interface for that task that achieves a good UX despite the low hit rate (e.g. Copilot is a great example).

The gap between generating words and generating meaning will prove hard to close. Generating meaning requires *a model of the things being talked about* (language as communication), while generating words only requires a model of the structure of text (language as statistics)

When my grandfather attained citizenship, his papers read "Abraham William Doctorow." He went by "Abe," "Billy," "Bill," "William," "Abraham" and "Avrom."
Practically, it didn't matter that variations on all of these appeared on various forms of ID, contracts, and paperwork. 28/
