with so much mudslinging and vitriol in the last week, we're really fortunate to have such rigorous writing about the actual story: the residents of Fulton & Elliott-Chelsea – at Brooklyn, NY
A tenacious group of tenants is fighting a teardown plan in one of Manhattan's most desirable neighborhoods that could spell the end of public housing as we know it? I wrote for @newrepublic about their struggle and the fate of government-run homes in the US.

If tenants are organizing against their own displacement and the privatization of their public housing it is the job of a 'socialist' organization to support them... not to tell them that they are wrong to fight because *insert bullshit talking points*...

FYI, several militaries, governments & international agencies are preparing for food disruptions in 2027. Do with that what you will.

This video is even better. I swear to god the Albanian protesters are actually wizards casting firework spells at the police! All power to the Albanian people.

Lady with a straight face says that she wants to make capitalism work "without the exploitation of people" ???
I get that words don't mean anything anymore but come on lol
Is L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman a capitalist?
"I'm a capitalist and I'm also a Democratic Socialist...we need to make sure capitalism works without harm to workers... to poor people."
She says the DSA is a "big tent" but she disagrees with members who call to abolish police, prisons and the Senate.

I beg those who genuinely identify as socialist to take study and analysis of political-economy and capitalism seriously... understanding who the class enemies are and how we should relate to them does really help to cut through a lot of bullshit and will save your comrades grief

"left nimby" is the term some yimbys had to invent when they realized the people they were arguing with about housing are majority working class renters/poor people concerned with displacement and also in every other aspect significantly more progressive than them. lol

“Left-YIMBYism” is one of the funniest things I’ve seen people talk themselves into. Like yeah, I’m a socialist except in the case of housing where I believe in supply-side economics and deregulation. Let’s bulldoze some section 8 housing and sell it to developers

ICE just locked up the man who feeds 8,000 Bronx neighbors a month, at his own immigration hearing. Now his food pantry is shut.🤬
Aleksander Nilaj, an Albanian immigrant who founded the Open Hand food pantry in the Bronx in 2012, showed up for his immigration hearing at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan. ICE agents detained him instead. He is now held at Delaney Hall, a detention center in Newark, New Jersey. bit.ly/4i8Uqse

Teens are telling their therapists they don’t believe there will be a world left for them when they grow up
My family therapist told me therapists are talking about this with each other because none of them know what to say
I can’t stop thinking about that

not sure who needs to hear this but if you aren't anti-capitalist you aren't 'left' or 'socialist' you are just a liberal

Wife and I are moving today. Rent increase was too much. Reminded just how stressful it is packing up everything you own and moving it out, but we're fortunate that we have family to help and can afford to hire movers, unlike the tenants that a certain type feels fine displacing.

I listened to older black NYers worry about this in housing Q&As, and public forums and being told they were being paranoid for asking about it.
Here we are.
After promising to commit to public housing on the campaign trail, Zohran Mamdani's NYC is now backing a developer-friendly demolition and privatization plan to displace thousands of working-class New Yorkers and hand over public land to billionaire Steve Ross
Despite pushback from his own DSA allies, the Mamdani admin has doubled down on the project, calling it "innovative"
Now, Fulton, Elliott, and Chelsea Houses in Manhattan are slated for demolition and redevelopment, shifting residents from Section 9 public housing to Section 8. More than 2,000 residents now face displacement, with elderly tenants among those most immediately threatened.
"This is a land grab! We have 4 white men in a room making decisions for us! Y'all need to stop this nonsense. Mamdani is not working for the people, he's working for the damn developers!"

🚨 Empty shelves and panic buying across Meloni's Italy as a nationwide truckers' strike over soaring fuel costs continues to escalate.
In Naples and throughout Southern Italy (see video below) many gas stations have run completely dry, and supermarkets (from major chains to local markets) face severe shortages of fresh produce, meat, and dairy. The fuel crisis now threatens critical ferry links between the mainland and islands such as Capri and Ischia, forcing maritime operators to appeal for emergency government intervention.
Yet, Italy’s flagship evening news devoted 15 minutes to youth crime in Milan, completely ignoring a two-week strike that is actively paralyzing the South.

this is why the provocateur psyop, and that's precisely what it is, is so appalling - because it necessitates our participation in policing protest to determine who is and who isn't "legitimate" and who might be "a cop secretly working against us."

i had a huge thread in 2020 of arrests where police and their media partners openly boasted about scouring protest footage (alongside many of you, intent as you are on id'ing "provocateurs") and i maintained it, added to it and kept it updated for at least two years afterwards:
