Sade’s “Kiss of Life” might be the most beautiful sample ever used. DOOM took it, slowed it, and built “Doomsday” around it.

With a delegation of the Australian Trade Remedies Commission @wto yesterday. I was busy running my mouth in the meeting about cricket, and I swallowed those words when Bavuma lost his wicket last night before the close of play 🫢 Hoping for some bragging rights after tomorrow

This is not an ANC defence post. It's a data post. For weeks, 30 years of measurable state building has been waved away with anecdotes, potholes and headlines. So here are the national numbers. Not just Jo'burg. The whole country. 👇🏾 Our population grew from about 40m to 63.5m. Services had to outrun that growth. They did: • Electricity for lighting: 58% → 95% of households • Piped water inside the home: 32% → 60% • Improved sanitation: 62% → 84% • Adults with no schooling: 19% → 7% • Degree holders: 649,000 → nearly 3 million • Black graduates: 188,000 → 1.7 million • About 5 million housing opportunities delivered • 26.5 million grant beneficiaries, including nearly 13 million children • Life expectancy: from about 52 at the height of AIDS to nearly 67, via the world's largest ARV programme • 8 in 10 South Africans online, nearly 2 mobile connections per person • A real economy about 85% bigger than in 1994 • 12GW+ of renewables contracted via REIPPPP, a state-designed programme that brought in private capital None of this was luck. It was built by an ANC-led state, with business at the table, out of a sanctions-era wreckage. The fatigue is real. Unemployment is real. Failing municipalities are real, and we should say so. But tiredness must not make us blind. Thirty years ago millions had no lights, no water in the yard, no access to basic healthcare. Today they do. Whoever tells you nothing changed wants you to hate your own progress. A pothole trends for three days. 5 million housing opportunities never trend at all. Both are facts. Only one gets counted. To business: this market was built here. Talking it down is not analysis. It's a short position on your own balance sheet. Lies have short legs. I'm ready for the debate. Which of these numbers do you dispute? Reply with your source. Data, not vibes. Don Mattera in his book ‘Memory is the Weapon’ highlights widespread protection rackets among the gangs that existed in Western township, Newclare and Sophiatown from the 1930s to the 1950s
People of Southa please remind me (including you @LudidiVelani ) Did this phenomenon begin with the so called constitution mafia in KZN? Or has it always existed.

“Yet our best trained, best educated, best equipped, best prepared troops refuse to fight. As a matter of fact, it's safe to say that they would rather switch than fight." - Thomas Todd, in a quotation sampled in Public Enemy’s ‘Fight The Power’
Marxists don’t talk like this. This is how BLACK PEOPLE need to address capitalism.

Two major events last week, one sector. Paris Motor Show and the SA Auto Week. In all, discussions on the future of policy were top of the agenda. In eThekwini last week, we re-affirmed the role of the sector as a driver of foreign exchange, industrial complexity and linkages.

“The ANC is our shield, the @SACP1921 is our vanguard. Our shield cannot collapse because we have always known that no harm will come to the workers when we have our shield there, which is the @MYANC. This shield has collapsed, workers are exposed, workers are attacked,” Mike Shingange Mike Shingange

Everyone in favour of redress is pro-ANC? By this logic, the political settlement of 1994 is only supported by the ANC and everyone else is held captive to it, against their will? Ever heard of a ‘fallacy of composition’ sage of West Campus? Or? … eish nvm
‘Black’ in BEE policy is gaslighting. The real purpose of the policy is to economically exclude people that do not belong and support the ANC.

On #METROFMTALK, we also spoke to Mametlwe Sebei, Legal Expert and Lecturer at UNISA who also works with Lawyers for Human Rights, to get a legal perspective on South Africa’s new asylum rules. We unpacked what the Constitutional Court ruling means for asylum seekers, why access to the application process matters and the challenge of balancing legal protections with concerns about the capacity of the asylum system. How does South Africa protect the right to seek asylum while ensuring the system is properly managed? Catch the podcast on metrofm.co.za

The ‘ward-based’ interpretation of ‘local content’, as a regionalised phenomenon to establish eligibility for economic ‘rents’ is on full display in this Sibanyoni testimony. It is an interpretation different to that afforded to the term in industrial policy.
