My Melb Cup ratings for a Good 4. Will be some changes if rain comes. Pretty self explanatory, Point of Law brings best lead up but now needs to repeat as a NH 3yo on the back up, occasion could get to him. Hopewell Rock comes through big handicaps, has a win over Small Fry 1/2

I don't bet on the Melbourne Cup until I've spoken with Luke Murrell @Ausbloodstock. He has imported, owned & syndicated 2 Melbourne Cup winners (Protectionist 2014 & Gold Trip 2022) and won most other major staying races both here and abroad. No-one spends more time on video, data & sectionals to determine the real quality overseas imports vs the pretenders.

You simply can't bet on the Cups until you get a real understanding of each runner's ability. For the Melbourne Cup, in 2022 we tipped $21 winner Gold Trip in our top 2, in 2023 we had Without A Fight top rated, and in 2024 Warp Speed at 40/1 would have been a big result but was 2nd beaten a nose on the line. In 2025 more than 21,000 watched our Melbourne Cup Preview where Luke declared the Melbourne Cup a 2 horse race, rating Half yours at $4.50 who won at $9, and declared heavily backed favourite Presage Nocturne was "not good enough to get in the finish".
Luke has declared 2 horses he thinks run the quinella this year also!

On existing form, Stinger Glass may well be the best stayer in the field, however I question why he didn't have a lead up run like 90% of the JPN horses that came before him.
SG has 4 "Red" negative markers across the KEY prep data points.
