This is no mistake but a calculated act of soft terror. As a former Unison Branch Secretary, Andrea Egan's focus on this issue is far more sinister than you fully appreciate. What the far left is doing is policing its members on extreme far-left ideological lines rather than defending their members' pay and conditions. In effect, Unison reps are becoming commissars for the Labour Party, enforcing its Critical Social Theory ideology. Unison is effectively turbo-charging Wokism in the workplace and driving employers' HR to punish any employee who does not follow the Party Line. Her stance sends a direct message to her membership that, under her leadership, she and Unison stand for this ideology, actively police thinking in the workplace, and will push employers to discipline and remove Unison members who disagree. At the same time, Unison is attacking equality before the law and in pay and conditions by accepting Critical Social Theory and thus enabling discrimination against perceived privileged groups such as white men or Christians. These groups become especially vulnerable when bad actors use their oppressed status as leverage that prevents them from being held accountable for bad behaviour in the workplace. This is accelerating the open discrimination we are witnessing in the workplace, whereby DEI criteria enable promotion and the unfair treatment of staff and open bullying of others.
