“I don't want you to be mine. I want you to be free and still choose to stay with me.” - Mahmoud Darwish Mahmoud Darwish (1941–2008) was a Palestinian poet and essayist who became one of the most influential literary figures in the modern Arab world. Born on March 13, 1941, in al-Birwa, Palestine, his writing was deeply shaped by exile, identity, memory, love, and a powerful sense of longing for home. Throughout a career lasting more than four decades, Darwish published over 30 collections of poetry and prose. His lyrical writing and emotional depth earned him international acclaim. Although much of his work reflected the Palestinian experience, his exploration of love, loss, hope, belonging, and humanity connected with readers far beyond his homeland. Darwish’s poetry has been translated into dozens of languages and continues to reach audiences around the world. He died on August 9, 2008, leaving behind an enduring literary legacy. His work remains admired for its beauty, humanity, and graceful expression of both personal emotion and collective memory.

When Dostoevsky said: “You don't miss the person, you miss the version of yourself that existed when they were there ” But Kafka said: “And perhaps that is why moving on hurts, because you're grieving someone who is still alive and someone inside you who isn't.”

Low key a huge problem in society is an inability to show grace to others while we demand it from them
Single girlfriend in NYC's text exchange with a Raya match. This is tough... In her defense, 15 minutes isn't crazy late for NYC. The guy's texts also invite drama. You're already at the table, why not wait and see how she reacts in-person, then decide whether you're still interested? In his defense, she should've at least been in the car by 7:15 for a 7:15 date. An apology for being late feels 100% appropriate. IMO they both could've done better. It's also clearly not a match, so at least they figured that part out 🥲

marry your intellectual equal and this goes away. I’d guess it’s #1 for long-term compatibility — an ability to dig deep; insights, introspection, cultural + existential awareness, concepts, wit, philosophies, ethics, nuance. some people just don’t have it in them
i never knew there was an actual term for this: epistemic loneliness is a cognitive form of isolation that happens when you cannot share complex ideas, inner thoughts, or meaningful perspectives because you lack a willing, able, or understanding conversational partner.

Life allows very fat margin for error. Mistakes don’t really matter as long as u ignore them. Everything is either fixable or forgettable.
