In the rush to build data centers, companies are starting to use their own off grid gas generators. This results in much higher emissions – 60% to 80% – compared with using their local electricity grid and risks locking in longer-term fossil dependence.

Billionaires destroying the life force of the planet and killing future of all young people alive today Before Google’s arrival a few months ago, estimated quarter of a million trees occupied 815 acres of forest near town of Muhos in rural northern Finland. Now they are all gone
Google illegally cleared an estimated 250,000 trees across 330 hectares of forest in Muhos, northern Finland, to prepare for a new AI data center before completing mandatory environmental impact assessments And another 150,000 trees felled at Otanmäki theguardian.com/environment/…

NEW MEER PODCAST Tom harris joins us to explore how the forests, soils and oceans we rely on to absorb carbon are beginning to release it instead, and what that shift means for our response to extreme heat. Watch the full conversation here: youtu.be/VQXxL9YHEXU?si=I59W…

Great piece by Tom Harris on cloud feedback The world's cloud cover is reducing, which makes the planet hotter This may be why Miocene Climatic Optimum temperatures were 7 - 8C up on pre-industrial for CO2 levels of just 400 - 600ppm Very, very, scary substack.com/home/post/p-220…

Cloud feedback of less Sulfur Aerosol is known, but that a warmer surface scatters clouds ☁️ over the Ocean 🌊 and land is little known - also the role of plants and plankton to make their own rain and shadow. Tried to make a graph with some prompting

AS FEARED: "The world’s clouds are changing. They are covering less overall area and are dimming, with the effect that they reflect less solar radiation back into space. This increase in solar absorption is a major cause of the accelerating warming we are now experiencing."

Fixed it, @UNEP We cannot return to lower temperatures with only emission reductions and carbon capture and storage Anyone who claims that is grossly negligent. Misrepresention of inconveniet truths in order to give people false hope is very dangerous.
The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: unep.org/en/news-and-stories…
