Behind every screen there is a real person. Imagine waking up to threatening messages, discovering that your private photos have been shared without your consent, or feeling watched every time you go online. For many women and girls, this is not just an unpleasant online experience; it is technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). From cyberstalking and online harassment to impersonation and digital threats, abuse can follow someone from the online world into their everyday life. At COVAW Kenya, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and empowered, both online and offline. Let’s speak up, support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable. Technology should empower, not harm. Let’s build safer digital spaces for all. 💜❤️ #COVAWKenya #EndGBV #SafeOnline #WomenAndGirls #EndDigitalViolence

A STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE, BUT IMPLEMENTATION IS KEY. On 21 October 2026, Kenya’s National Assembly passed the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2023, seeking to strengthen public awareness of sexual offences and protect survivors’ right to education, including teenage mothers. This is a welcome step towards justice and equality. At COVAW, we believe every woman and girl deserves dignity, safety, access to justice and the opportunity to fulfil her potential. Laws must translate into action. Survivors deserve protection, support and uninterrupted access to education, free from stigma and discrimination. Justice must be more than words on paper. #COVAW #EndGBV #WomensRights #GirlsRights #AccessToJustice #SurvivorSupport #RightToEducation #EndSexualViolence

Online violence is not “just something on the internet.” It can have very real consequences offline. Research shows that 38% of people have experienced online violence, while 85% agree that online violence is a serious form of violence. What happens behind a screen can spill into real life—affecting a person’s safety, mental well-being, relationships, work and participation in public spaces. Threats, harassment, stalking, doxxing and other forms of technology-facilitated violence can escalate and create risks beyond the digital space. Online violence is real violence. Let’s take it seriously, speak up and create safer digital spaces for everyone. #COVAW #DidYouKnow #OnlineViolence #DigitalSafety #TechnologyFacilitatedViolence #TFGBV #EndGBV #SafeOnlineSpaces #GenderEquality #WomenOnline

🔆 Leadership goes beyond political titles. At GCC, it begins with leading yourself, making choices, speaking up, & challenging exclusion. For persons with #disabilities, leadership it is claiming space& influencing decisions. Leadership begins with you. #GCCVoices @covaw

Who looks after the mental wellbeing of those who care for our communities? Last week in Isiolo County, Community Health Promoters (CHPs) took part in a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) session focused on strengthening their mental wellbeing and equipping them with practical self-care strategies to manage stress and emotional demands while serving their communities. CHPs play an important role in community health, but their own wellbeing matters, too. Access to practical mental health tools helps them navigate these demands while providing compassionate care. 💬 What helps you manage stress and protect your mental wellbeing? #MentalHealthMatters #MHPSS #CommunityHealth #COVAW

When mothers are supported, women thrive. 💜 Imagine having to choose between keeping your job and breastfeeding your baby. No mother should have to face that dilemma. The passage of the Breastfeeding Mothers Bill, 2024, by the National Assembly is an important step towards promoting gender equality, protecting mothers from workplace discrimination, and creating breastfeeding-friendly spaces. At COVAW (Coalition on Violence Against Women), we believe that women’s dignity, rights, and well-being must be respected in every space, including the workplace. Supporting breastfeeding mothers means recognising their needs, protecting their rights, and creating environments where women can thrive without being forced to choose between motherhood and their careers. A woman should not have to sacrifice her professional dreams to care for her child. Let’s champion policies and workplaces that support women and families. #COVAW #WomensRights #GenderEquality #BreastfeedingMothers #WorkplaceInclusion #MaternalHealth #WomenEmpowerment

🇰🇪 This Mashujaa Day, we celebrate the women who rise, speak up, lead, and make a difference in our communities. From mothers nurturing families to women advocating for justice and survivors finding the courage to rebuild their lives, every woman has a story worth celebrating. At COVAW, we believe women and girls deserve to live with dignity, free from sexual and gender-based violence. Today, we honour their courage and the everyday heroes working towards a safer, more equal Kenya. “We are not here to fight our culture, but to challenge harmful practices that violate human rights and put our girls at risk.” These words from Dinah of UNFPA, during a monitoring visit to the #KomeshaFGM SASA! Programme in Marakwet East, speak to an important truth: protecting girls and preserving positive cultural values can go hand in hand. Communities can uphold the traditions that bring them together while challenging practices that put girls’ health, rights and futures at risk. The goal is a future where every girl can grow up safe, free from FGM and empowered to realise her full potential. Let us preserve what strengthens our communities and change what harms our girls. #KomeshaFGM #EndFGM #GirlsRights #COVAW

Every girl deserves to grow up safe and free from FGM/C. As schools close, the risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) increases for girls in at-risk communities. Last week in Chesongoch, Marakwet East, the #KomeshaFGMSasa Programme equipped frontline workers with skills in psychological first aid, early identification of girls at risk, and referral to appropriate support services. Strengthening community response means girls at risk can be identified earlier, survivors can access support, and more girls can look forward to a future free from harmful practices. Protecting girls today means safeguarding their choices, opportunities, and futures. #KomeshaFGM #EndFGM #GirlsRights #COVAW

Women in leadership are not just changing the story—they are creating better spaces for a better future. 💜 When women lead, communities thrive. From the family table to the boardroom, from community spaces to policy-making, women bring experiences, ideas and solutions that can shape safer, fairer and more inclusive communities. But leadership must come with equal opportunity, safety and freedom from violence and discrimination. Let’s support women who dare to lead, challenge the barriers that hold them back, and create spaces where every woman can participate and make decisions. Strong women build stronger communities. A SAFER TOMORROW FOR EVERY WOMAN AND GIRL. Violence against women and girls is preventable and ending it requires all of us. COVAW’s Strategic Area 1 focuses on preventing, mitigating and responding to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) by strengthening communities, challenging harmful gender norms and ensuring survivors receive the support they need. We must build communities where women and girls are safe, heard, believed and supported. Prevent. Respond. Support. Some of the most important expertise on ending violence against women and girls sits with the women who are too often left out of the room. 💜 That is why COVAW and Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA) have brought our work to #SVRIForum2026 in Bangkok. This is a partnership built on a simple principle: nothing about us, without us. Swipe through to see what our study found, and come and talk to us about what it means for your work. We're keen to hear from researchers, funders, practitioners and movement partners who want to put inclusion into practice, not just into policy. 📍 Booth B23 Funded by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women. #SVRIForum2026 #EVAWG #DisabilityInclusion #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #COVAW

Women Without Fear Imagine a world where a woman can walk home without constantly checking behind her. Where a girl can go to school, dream big, speak her mind and use her voice without being told, “That’s not for girls.” Imagine a workplace where women are respected, paid fairly and given opportunities because of their skills—not judged because they are women. Imagine a woman who experiences violence knowing that she will be believed, supported and able to access justice without shame or blame. That is the kind of world we should be building. Women’s rights are not special privileges. Safety is not a favour. Every woman and girl deserves to live, work, learn, speak, travel and dream without fear. So, here’s the question: What would you change if every woman and girl could live without fear? Maybe it starts with safer streets. Maybe it starts with listening. Maybe it starts with challenging harmful beliefs at home, at work or in our communities. Small changes can create safer spaces. And safer spaces give women the freedom to thrive. Let’s not just imagine a world without fear. Let’s help build it. #WomenWithoutFear #WomenRights #WomensSafety #EndGBV #GenderEquality #SafeSpaces #WomenAndGirls #EmpowerWomen #GirlsRights #EndViolenceAgainstWomen

To every girl in Kenya 💜. The one who raises her hand first, and the one who is still finding her voice. The one who dreams out loud, and the one who dreams quietly. You are already leading, and you do not have to be fearless to be strong. We see you. We believe in you. And we will keep working so that you can grow up safe, heard and free. Whose evidence counts when we respond to online violence against women? That was the question behind yesterday's panel at #SVRIForum2026 in Bangkok, convened by Urgent Action Fund-Africa. Our Vice Chairperson of the Board, Njeri Rugene, spoke from COVAW's experience, and her point was direct: grassroots organisations are not only implementers. They are producing evidence every day. It comes from the work itself. Listening to survivors. Seeing what is changing in communities. Documenting new forms of violence as they appear. Noticing the gaps that official data does not show. This matters most with technology-facilitated gender-based violence, because the abuse keeps changing and many experiences are never reported, or are poorly captured when they are. The people closest to it often see the patterns first. Yet that knowledge is too often written off as anecdotal, and the decisions that follow, about research, funding, law and policy, get made without it. The conversation was about changing that: recognising grassroots, survivor-centred evidence as evidence, and resourcing and protecting the people who produce it. #SVRIForum2026 #TFGBV #COVAW
