I am a great fan of yours except for this obsession with 'active travel' which will kill the town and city centres. What climate emergency ? Latest data shows it is something of a myth, certainly not affecting people who voted for you in the West Midlands.

If HS2 was a motorway, it would have been built by now! But because new rail projects are minutely analysed with this "value for the taxpayer" nonsense. If road building was held to the same level of scrutiny, a sizable amount of the road network would still be cart tracks.

"Bringing a car with me entitles me to more rights than everyone else"
Replying to @RichardWellings
It is not only about small businesses. It is about quality of life. Cars with passengers should be able to pull up to park at the side of the road anywhere. Have a drink go to loo, shop as they wish, have a break,

"on the whole peoples' driving somewhere contributes to the prosperity of society." Desperate
Replying to @BobFromAccounts
Obviously no-one *needs* to drive anywhere in the sense that he won't drop dead if he doesnt; but then no-one needs to cycle, skateboard, pogo-stick, or space-hopper anywhere either. But on the whole peoples' driving somewhere contributes to the prosperity of society. Cyclist going to the next Grindr meet or showing off their tight lycra to the other men on their ridie ridies don't help society quite as much.

Remember, cyclists are privileged elites who gentrify the area and also are poor people who can't afford to drive. Car drivers are successful wealthy people but also poor and hard working. And nobody who owns or drives a car also owns or rides a bike
Replying to @Boenau
Stop idolizing obsolete technology. Bicycles are for those too poor to afford anything better.

Mornin’. Today, we’re going to argue about Lime bikes. I just parked my one here in Islington. It’s the green one. I use one almost every day. A brilliant way to get around London. Way faster than a car. ‘But they’re untidy parked everywhere’. Yep, but imagine every Lime bike you see was a car. What an absolute nightmare that would be. And have you seen how awful parked cars make the most beautiful street look? Right, I’m off for breakfast and coffee. Have a lovely Wednesday :)

"It's not about you, it's about ME!"
Again - you don’t have to step into traffic. And in some cases, they park on the pavement because if they parked flat on the road, it would block the road for things like buses and emergency services. It’s not all about you. End of.

Sounds quite popular then
Replying to @LincolnRestler
The only people who want this are restaurant owners to increase revenue, commercial landlords to charge more in rent, anti-car lobbyists who want parking spaces removed and the politicians beholden to all three.

Was driver trying to avoid cyclists, Statistics on these types of collisions are getting worryingly high.

Suggesting some people replace their single-occupant, short journey by car with a bicycle or walking always descends into this
Replying to @BobFromAccounts
It's madness that you keep wanting technology to go backwards. Let's see you carry a sofa on a bicycle.

These douchbags blocked me in this thread? Less than 300 people out of 8 million die per year in traffic accidents in NYC, and not all are pedestrians. People are far more likely to be murdered, or die because of smoking or bad diet. Why not focus on cigarettes or crime?

The parents should be arrested for teaching their kids that streets can be for anything but cars.
