Our daily dose of Ditch the Triple Lock scutter from RTE, with Helen McEntee scaring the bejaysus out of us. In addition to undersea gas pipelines (there's three including the one that connects Britain to N Ireland, which in turn is integrated with the Republic's network) and the undersea data cables, McEntee now suggests our goods imports/exports by sea are threatened. Is Putin going to sink Irish Ferries? And tsk, tsk she's wrong about the undersea cables...

Hot on the heals of supporting Israel, Ukraine then Serbia, @MichealMartinTD now expresses his strong support for the people of Belarus to be allowed the freedom to choose their own future and self determination. Ask him about the same rights for citizens of the 6 counties of the North of Ireland, and it's all "now is not the time". He's a political weasel and charlatan. Ireland deserves better than a hypocritical fake. – at Ottawa, Ontario
It was a pleasure to welcome Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to Government Buildings today. Ireland fully supports a democratic Belarus. We must stand strongly with the people of Belarus and their right to decide their own government and their own future.

Replying to @morningireland
@morningireland leads with the 'intensely debated' issue of the Triple Lock, only to have Cathal Berry on alone, unchallenged, claiming the new legislation is simply a 'broadening' of what we currently have. This is meant to be public media.

War mongering insanity. The Minister is proposing that Irish troops participate in a mission without UN mandate (& therefore illegal) to disarm Hezbollah and so intervene in a Lebanese civil war on behalf of the Zionist state which is perpetrating a genocide. #TripleLock

RTE continues to abuse its position to foist voices upon us which are pro-Nato, pro-weapons spending, anti-neutrality or anti-Triple Lock or a combination thereof. Its weekend flagship current affairs programme with an audience of 399,000 today features US-born lecturer Larry Donnelly, whose views on neutrality & military alliances are well-known. This is the listing of guests over the past year who would be regarded as pro-Nato, pro-weapons spending, anti-neutrality or anti-Triple Lock or a combination thereof.. As was pointed out by someone last week, it omits Alison O'Connor who is also pro-militarisation, based on columns she has had in newspapers. The only well-known anti-Nato, anti-militarisation, pro-neutrality pro-Triple Lock voice in the entire year was Brid Smith on 22 March 2026. That's how unbalanced these panels have been. In 2026, RTE is 100% dependant on Government-backed funding, you saw recently the conniptions it had when there was a €20m shortfall in a €725m bailout. Brendan O'Connor was paid €239,988 by RTE in 2025 for around 40 weeks of 4-hr on-air work. Dismantling the Triple Lock is the top priority for Micheal Martin to show off as his legacy. It's rotten, but despite the concerted effort to plant a negative narrative, the majority of the public who express an opinion want to retain the Triple Lock.
RTE continues to abuse its position to foist voices upon us which are pro-Nato, pro-weapons spending, anti-neutrality or anti-Triple Lock or a combination thereof. Its weekend flagship current affairs programme with an audience of 399,000 today features "defence analyst" Declan Power. Somehow, I doubt there'll be criticism of all the weapons spending .... €1bn on armoured cars and cannon, €500m on radar to replace the radar we gave to Ukraine, €600m with Airbus for helicopters and surveillance planes, €250m for a new ship, €40m for Javelin missiles, €20m for drone missiles, €60m for array sonar etc, etc. And our Triple Lock (specifically UN approval for foreign deployments) is in dire peril with Micheal Martin power grab to dismantle it. Brazen, but then again RTE has to pay Brendan O'Connor €240,000 a year for 4-hrs week on-air for 40 weeks a year at an utterly bust basketcase 100% dependant on a capricious government decision to back the outfit.

🚢 CONTACT ESTABLISHED WITH TANKER OF THE NORTHWEST OF IRELAND Contact was established last night with the Myra, a Russian-linked tanker sailing under the Cameroon flag. HM Coastguard confirmed that assistance was not required. An RAF 'Sub-Hunter' Poseidon aircraft, with callsign 'RESCU39', located the Myra, which had 21 people aboard. The crew reported that a distress signal activated as they departed an area of large swells from storm Boelo . After assessment, the vessel continued its passage. "Where to next after Triple Lock passes first Dáil vote?" RTE does the Triple Lock. So it does. It portrays it as a done deal that the dismantlement legislation will pass the Oireachtas, without mentioning the noted unhappiness of 10-15 FF TDs (John McGuinness and Willie O'Dea are noted as non voters this week, but that's not "sufficient enough" to block the law), and it's a "done deal" that President Connolly will sign it into law without a referral to Council of State and/or Supreme Court. The only non-politician cited by RTE is lecturer Ben Tonra, and of course RTE doesn't disclose his role with an armaments lobbying outfit and his longstanding and widely disseminated views on militarisation and military alliances. Of course, there's no reference to opinion polling which shows the majority of those expressing an opinion, in favour of keeping the Triple Lock. It's a done deal, and you'll just have to get used to it. It's Sunday and apologies for the profanity, but Fuck Off RTE.

Good morning fellow frogs, isn't this water getting a tad hot? When the government said it was buying €600m of surveillance planes and military helicopters from one of the world's most corrupt companies, Airbus, we relaxed in the tepid water When the government said it was buying €1bn of armoured cars and cannon, we splashed some lukewarm water over our bodies When the government said it was buying a €250m warship, we blew bubbles through the pleasant water. When the government said it was giving away our €100m Saab radars to Ukraine, and buying a €500m system, we navigated a yellow duck through the noticeably warm waters, quack, quack. When we bought a €20m drone system, a €60m sonar system, put out tenders for €20m Nato-aligned uniform, we became a bit less relaxed in the borderline hot water And today, "military planners" are making recommendations that may cost us €10bn+ in new equipment. Not so pleasant any more, fellow frogs!

It is clear that F/FG's reasons for removing the Triple Lock have nothing to do with the arguments they put forward - which are paper thin and easily refuted. They are deliberately misleading the Irish public, pushing ahead w/ a hugely unpopular & significant policy change.
Changes to the Triple Lock are necessary to ensure Ireland, as a sovereign nation, has the independence to decide where and when we deploy our Defence Forces. No other country has this mechanism in place, allowing another state or superpower a say in its decisions.

They can't name a peacekeeping mission they'd like to deploy Irish soldiers to that they're prevented from by the UN mandate constraint There isn't one And the EU will not replace the UNIFIL mission. Looks more like an ethnic cleansing mission of Southern Lebanon for Israel
👉 No other country in the world gives Trump 🇺🇸, Putin 🇷🇺 and Xi 🇨🇳 a veto over their own foreign policy. The Irish 'Triple Lock' is the opposite of national sovereignty. The world has drastically changed. Irish military neutrality remains steadfast but must adapt. .@sinnfeinireland seem to want Irish soldiers confined to their barracks. No young person wants to join such an army. Irish peacekeepers have a proud record around the world and are now needed more than ever. I welcome today's reform by the Irish parliament 🇮🇪.

One argument for dropping the triple lock is that UN peacekeeping has collapsed, and is cynically tied to UN paralysis but yet can't name a mission they'd like that isn't happening Where do you want to send peacekeepers that an SC veto prevents? There isn't one. It's made up

The Government is projecting budget surpluses of €6.7bn in 2026 and €9.6bn in 2027. Yet public sector workers are being left waiting for a decent pay offer. There is no excuse for real-terms pay cuts. 10% now is the bare minimum. #PayTheWorkers

From 11am today in the Supreme Court, two TDs challenge a Micheal Martin power-grab whereby he expanded the number of ministers beyond that stipulated in the Constitution, to include "super junior ministers". SF TD Pa Daly and PBP S TD Paul Murphy separate cases and appeals to be heard between today and Friday. And from 4.30pm in the Dail, Micheal Martin's latest powergrab, to Dismantle the Triple Lock, which will remove the UN lever and mean that a Cabinet and Dail majority is all that's needed for foreign troop deployments, and that our troops may be sent to conflicts where they face hostilities from USA, China, Russia, UK, France. #DefendTheTripleLock
PBP-S TD Paul Murphy and SF TD Pa Daly separate challenges to three super junior ministers attending Cabinet meetings. Rulings published. TLDR? They both lost Murphy www2.courts.ie/acc/alfresco/… Daly www2.courts.ie/acc/alfresco/…
