The commissioning ceremony of the 56th batch of BSc nursing cadets from the College of Nursing, AFMC Pune was held at the Capt Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra Parade Ground on 24th October 2026. AMC Centre & College conducted the Indo-Kazakh Joint Training Programme to enhance military medical preparedness for combat casualty care. Training encompassed combat trauma, blast and mine injuries, CBRNe threats, combat stress, battlefield triage and casualty evacuation. In a significant step towards indigenous innovation and rehabilitation excellence, IIT Madras handed over 24 indigenously developed YD One ultra-lightweight active wheelchairs to Artificial Limb Centre (ALC), Pune and Command Hospital (SC), Pune. Developed by IIT Madras and manufactured by its incubated assistive technology startup, Thryv Mobility, with CSR support from Fiserv, these wheelchairs aim to enhance independence, mobility and quality of life of beneficiaries. In a landmark outreach in #Kashmir, 364 sight-restoring surgeries were performed during two Mega Eye Surgical Camps at Tangdhar & Srinagar between 24-30 Sep 2026, bringing advanced ophthalmic care to people in remote and forward areas. Ahead of the camps, teams from Base Hospital Srinagar & Field Hospital at Tangdhar conducted 18 screening camps across Tangdhar, Dawar, Machil, Uri, Baramulla, Bandipora, Khanabal, Kangan and other areas, screening nearly 6,000 people. 220 surgeries were performed over two days at Tangdhar in an underground OT close to the LoC, demonstrating the capability to deliver complex microsurgical eye care even in challenging field conditions. Another 144 surgeries were performed at Base Hospital Srinagar over two days including cataract, glaucoma, pterygium and retinal procedures. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha, graced the closing ceremony of the 11th Mega Eye Surgical Camp at Srinagar on 30 Sep 2026 and appreciated the dedication, professional skill and compassion of the AFMS eye team. Lt Gen Balbir Singh, GOC #ChinarCorps, and senior officers were also present. Led by Brig Sanjay Kumar Mishra, HoD Ophthalmology, Army Hospital (R&R), the initiative reflects the vision of Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, under whose guidance #OperationDrishti commenced in Dec 2024.
